HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/09/68 Board of Public Works Minutes3591 September 9, 1968. A regular meeting of_the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 A.M. Arthur W. Frisk and Lloyd S. Taylor were present. The minutes of the two previous meetings were reviewed and approved. REQUEST•FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT-.$2200.00 F ire -Chief Cecil McHenry requests the transfer of $1000.00 from Account Q-11 (personnel) to Account Q-43 (repair parts) and the transfer of $.1200.00.from Account Q-11 (personnel) to Account Q-252 (repairs of equipment), said request being made for anticipated repairs to equipment. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request for the preparation of an ordinance for the consideration of the Common Council, and the matter is re- ferred to the Legal Department for the preparation of an ordinance. REQUEST TO ATTEND INDIANA ASSN. OF CITIES & TOMS CONVENTION, EVANSVILLE Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of Fire Chief Cecil McHenry to attend the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns convention in Evansville, Indiana, on September 16, 17 and 18, 1968. �. REQUEST OF CHIEF OF POLICE McNAUGHTON FOR TWO OFFICERS TO ATTEND CT3 THE "AMERICANS FOR LAW & ORDER CAMP -IN" MUNC`IE INDIANA Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Chief of Police U Thomas McNaughton for two officers from the Community Relations Division to attend the "Americans for Law and Order Camp -In" at Muncie, Indiana, and to Omi'.Ve Mechanical #44 and pull the Division's trailer, September 13 to.15, 1968, was approved by the Board. RETIREMENT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - MANUAL SADURAL Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton, upon motion made, seconded sand carried, the Board approved the retirement of officer Manual Sadural from the Police Department, effective September 15, 1968, having been appointed September 10, 1945, and having served more than 23 years. CHANGE OF AGE REQUIREMENT - POLICE DEPARTMENT - TO 21 TO 35 YEARS Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the following Resolution was adopted to change the age requirement for appointment to the South Bend Police Department from 21 to 31 years to 21 to 35 years: "WHEREAS, the Acts of 1935, Chapter 185, Section 1, as amended, of the Acts of the Indiana General Assembly provide that no person shall be appointed to the Police Department after such person has attained his 35th birth- day, and "WHEREAS, the age limits for appointment to the Police Department of the City of South Bend have heretofore re- quired applicants to be between the ages of 21 and 31 years. "BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Safety that the age re- quirements for applicants to the Police Department for the City of South Bend shall be that such applicant shall have attained the age of 35 years." REQUEST FOR POLICE OFFICER AT FRIDAY NIGHT COURT SESSIONS Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of Forrest West, Building Commissioner, for a uniformed police officer to attend Friday night court sessions from 5:00 P.M. until adjournment of court and until the building is secured by the custodian. Mr. West explained this request is made as the result of a degree of vandalism experienced at the Friday night sessions. APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed and referred to the Personnel Director for processing: Chester Stuart Aldridge Robert Albert Heick 1360 STREET LIGHTING APPROVED - KENSINGTON FARMS Upon motion made, seconded and carried the Board, upon the recommendation of the Engineering Department, approved installation of lighting in Kensington Farms"' Section 4, Part 1 (as per plan submitted to the Engineering Department by Indiana and Michigan Electric Company). Cost to be $36.05 per month (7 (@ $5.15). STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS for the period 8/39/68 to 9/6/68 ordered filed.
