A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00
A.M. on August 19, 1968, with Arthur W. Frisk and Lloyd S. Taylor present.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.
REQUEST TO ATTEND INDIANA FIRE CHIEFS' ASSN. CONFERENCE - ANTHONY ROMEO
The request of Fire Chief Cecil McHenry for Anthony Romeo to attend the
Indiana Fire Chiefs' Association Conference at Lafayette, Indiana, on
August 28, 1968, at which meeting Fireman Romeo had .been asked to present
a program, was, on motion made, seconded and passed, approved by the Board.
The request of Fire Chief McHenry to attend said conference on August 28;
29 and 30, 1968, was, upon motion made, seconded and carried, approved
by the Board.
REQUEST TO ATTEND BUILDING OFFICIALS' CONFERENCE OF AMERICA AT
JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA - LTS. WALTER BUTLER AND ROBERT RIBA
The request made on August 14, 1968, by Fire Chief McHenry for Lts. Walter
Butler and Robert Riba of the Inspection Bureau,to attend the Building
Officials Conference of Americanat Jeffersonville, Indiana from August 19
through August 21, 1968, accompanying Forrest West, Building Commissioner,
approved by Board members, On August -14,1968,,is hereby confirmed.
APPLICATIONS - POLICE .DEPARTMENT
The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were
filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing:
Larry Eugene Bennet
Robert Ronald Shaffer
Fred James Stockbarger
Bruce E. Taylor
APPOINTMENTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT
Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton and due in-
vestigation by the Board, the following appointments were made to the
Police Department; effective September 1, 1968:
Thomas James DeRue
Gary Gene Stansbury
REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - POLICE DEPARTMENT - $1000.00
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Chief of Police
Thomas McNaughton for the transfer of $1000.00 from Account #P-11 (services
personal) to Account #361 (photo supplies) was approved, and referred to the
Legal Department for the preparation of an ordinance for the consideration
of the Common Council.
POLICE RADIO TO WINSTON VAZ, F.E.P.C. DIRECTOR
Upon motion made, seconded end carried, at the request of Mr. Vaz and with
the approval of the Police Department, the Board approved the assignment of
a police radio to the personal automobile of Mr. Vaz in connection with his
work as Director of the Human Relations and Fair Employment Practices
Commission, Unit number being #97.
INNER BELT STREET LIGHTING - CHAPIN STREET
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation
of the Traffic Engineer for the installation of the following:
that the 16 existing 10,000 L INC UG street lights on Chapin Street,
between Washington and Western,be increased to 20,000 L MV UG.
The location of the existing poles to remain the same. Cost
presently being $864.00. Cost of recommended system $1824.00 per yr.
STREET SIGNS INSTALLED
Traffic Engineer advises installation of the following street signs:
"STOP AHEAD" - Signs and posts on Alpine at Brookton.
"STOP" - Sign and post on Preston at Sorin
"STOP" Si§n and post on Sorin at Hickory Road
"STOP" - Signs and posts on Brookfield at Pershing.
STREET, 4;iPHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street light outage reports for the period August 8 to August 15, 1968', were
filed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned
at 11:45 A.M.
