HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/15/68 Board of Public Works MinutesJuly 15, 1968. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 A.M. on July 15, 1968, with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. APPOINTMENT TO FiRE DEPARTMENT - LARRY RICHARD ERNSBERGER Upon the recommendation of Chief Cecil McHenry and due investigation by the Board, the Board approved the appointment to the South Bend Fire Department of Larry Richard Ernsbbrggr 1511 Hilltop Drive, South Bend, Indiana, as of August 1, 1968. RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - CASIMER WALTER RZEPKA Upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Cecil McHenry, the Board accepted and approved the application and declaration for retirement of Casimer Walter Rzepka, effective July 27, 1968, having been appointed on July 4, 1948, and having completed 20 years of service. REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT - $2700.00 Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of Fire Chief McHenry for the transfer of $1100.00 from Account Q-11 (salaries) to Account Q-221 (electric services), and to transfer $1600.00 V from Account Q-i1 (salaries) to Account Q-222 (gas service). The reason for -the request for additional funds for electrical services being that Station #2 is running considerably higher than estimated, and because bills for Stations #4 and #7 were paid after the first of the year which had not been included in the,1968 budget. The reason for requesting additional funds for gas service being that bills were paid after the first of the year for Stations #4 and #7 not included in the 1968 budget and because Station #2 is running higher than estimated. The matter was referred to the City Attorney for the preparation of Ordinance for the consideration of the Common Council. REQUEST OF POLICE DEPARTMENT TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL HOLD -UP AND BURGLARY ALARMS The request of Police Chief McNaughton for permission to have three additional panels installed in the radio communications center for the use of any alarm company wishing to use them, at thbir own expense with no cost -to the City, upon motion made, seconded and carried, was approved by the Board. Such alarms shall be Underwriter approved and conform to th@Panel, and the in- stalling company shall give local 24 hour, 7 day service. APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT - DENNIS JAN BAILEY After due investigation and upon the recommendation -:of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton, the Board approved the appointment of Dennis Jan Bailey to the South Bebd Police Department, effective July 16, 1968. APPOINTMENTS AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS ` Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton, the Board approved the appointment as special police officers as follows: Thomas P. Gipson, Buchanan, Michigan - employed by Bendix Corporation - William Poznanski, 2126 Baldwin Drive, Niles, Michigan, - Employed by Bendix. Ralph H. Radecki, 3001 Western Ave., South Bend, Indiana - Employed by Bendix. Russell Stines, 52036 Santa Monica Dr., South Bend, Indiana - employed by Bendix. STREET SIGNS APPROVED Upon the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the installation of the following street signs was approved by the Board: Four NO PARKING THiS SIDE OF STREET signs and posts on the south side of Oak Street, starting east of Cushing to end of yellow 50 ft. south of Chapin. YIELD sign on the S.E. corner of Colfax and Chapin. YIELD signs on Lincolnway at innerbelt NorthWest corner. 346 ONE HOUR PARKING LIMIT signs on -the no 2911 to 2927 Mishawaka. This.replaces PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT - E. MINER S' Mr. and Mrs Thomas Malone and 19 other! 1123 E. Miner Street. The petition wa! investigation and recommendation.
