A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order at
10:00 A.M. on June 3,'1968, with Arthur W. Fris;k and Lloyd S. Taylor present.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.
APPOINTMENTS TO POLICE DEPARTMENT
After due investigation and upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas
McNaughton, the following appointments to the South Bend Police Department
were made, effective as of 6/3/68:
Eugene Michael Basker - 537 E. Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Ind.
Ronald William Karch - 19507 Yoder Street, South Bend, Ind.
Ronald Lee:Wilson - 1017 S. Twyckenham Drive, South Bend, Ind.
APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT
After due investigation and upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Cecil McHenry,
the following appointment to the South Bend Fire Department was made, effective
as of 6/3/68:
ali Douglas E. Parmley - 1411 Marietta Street, South Bend, Indiana.
APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT

The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were filed
and referred to the Personnel Department for processing:
Armando Garcia
David Joseph Jasicki
Edwin Albert Tesmer
RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - ERWIN R. ROBE LESTER E. VANDEWALLE
Fire Chief McHenry reported that the following men have submitted their appli-
cations and declarations for retirement:
Erwin R. Robe - Appointed 6/1/48. Retirement date 6/2/68.
Lester E. Vande Walle - Appointed 6/13/48. Retirement date 6/14/68.
Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, said requests for retirement
were approved by the Board.
REQUEST TO ATTEND INDIANA ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE CONFERENCE
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Captain Orson E. Harman
to attend the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Michigan
City, Indiana on June 9, 10, 11 and 12, 1968, was approved.
REQUEST TO HOLD ANNUAL FIREMEN'S BALL
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of
Joseph Pajakowski, Secretary of the South Bend Fire Fighters Association, for
permission to hold its annual "Firemen's Ball" on 9/7/68, at Stepan Center,
University of Notre Dame.
INSTALLATION OF STOP SIGN AND POST - NAPIER STREET AT WALNUT
The Board approved the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director., for the
installation of a STOP SIGN AND POST oh Napier Street at Walnut.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS for the period 5/22/68 to 5/31/68 were filed.
