A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order at
10:00 A.M., with all members present. The minutes of the last meeting were
reviewed and approved.
APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT
The following applications for appointment to the F ire Department were filed and
referred to the Personnel Department for. processing: Felix Judd Esarey, James Edward
Pettit, Larry Gene Szczepanski.
APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT
The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were filed
and referred to the Personnel Department for processing William Louis Bernhardt,
Louis Adam But], Chester Vincent Chrapliwy, Jr., and John David Finch.
PROMOTIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT
Upon recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton the promotion of the
following officers from patrolman to sergeant was approved by the Board:
William Floring, Charles Mahank, Robert Bella, Henry Kruszewski, Robert Urban,
Cloyde Coffman, Ralph Bukowski, Norman Collmer, Louis Kujawski, and Richard Chlebek.
RETIREMENT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - EARL A. DHOORE
Upon recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton the Board accepted and
approved the retirement of Earl A. Dhoors and application for pension fund
effective 5/15/68, officer Dhoors having served 20 years in the Police Department.

RETIREMENT OF MANUAL SADURAL FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - RESCINDED
The retirement application of officer Manual Sadural having been received
inadvertently, and acted upon by the Board, the following resolution in reference
thereto was adopted:
"WHEREAS, a communication indicating the desire of Manual Sadural to
retire was inadvertently submitted to the Board on May 6, 1968, and
"WHEREAS, the Board acted upon such communication,,
"NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the action taken by the Board
on said communication is hereby rescinded and declared to be annulled."
RETIREMENT OF PAUL L. FLARY FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT
Upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Cecil McHenry, the Board accepted and approved
the declaration of retirement and application for pension fund of Paul L. Flary
effective 5/17/68, having been appointed to the Fire Department 7/16/46 and
having served 21 years and 10 months.
REQUEST FOR STREET LIGHT - 1400 Block Sori6 Street
A letter of request for a street light in the 1400 block of Sorin Street was
received from Robert 0. Laven, 3rd District Councilman and referred to the Traffic
Engineer for investigation and recommendation.
STREET LIGHTS APPROVED
Hartman Estates.. Hartman Builders having requested the lighting of a portion of its
new development, also residents of Corpus Drive in Hartman Estates also having
requested additional street lighting, the following recommendation of the Traffic
Engineer was approved by the Board: that four 4000 L, OH, WP street lights be
installed at the north end of Corpus Drive and one 4000 L, OH, WP. The cost to
the City would be $15.75 per month or $189.00 per year.
Northwest Housing Project Area. The recommendation of the Traffic Engineer for
the installation of two 000 L, OH, WP street lights, one each, mid block on
Meade and Freement, was approved by the Board. The cost to the City would be
$6.30 per month or $75.00 per year.

STREET SIGNS APPROVED
Upon the .recommendation of the Traffic Director, Clem F. Hazinski, the Board
_approved the following:
Installation NO PARKING two-way arrow signs and 2 posts in
500 Block North Lafayette;
Installation NO PARKING(right arrow) sign and post at east line
of 305 W. Navarre;
Installation NO PARKING (left arrow) sign and post in front of
319 W. Madison Street;
Installation NO PARKING (3 arrows) signs and posts in the 200
block W. Navarre. South side - 1/2 block west of Main Street;
Installation NO PARKING signs with arrows and posts on Longley
3000 west. Also paint curb yellow - Bendix parking lot.
Removal of stop signs on Northside Boulevard at Sample Street.
Attachment CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP signs beneath stop signs
on Sample Street;
Installation STOP sign and post on Meadow Lane and Parkway.
Installation NO PARKING THIS SIDE OF STREET signs in the
700-800 and 900 blocks of blest Western. (Construction work to
take two months.)
STATISTICAL REPORT OF POLICE DEPARTMENT for April, 1968, reviewed and
filed.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS for the period 5/1/68 to 5/9/68 filed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
adjourned at 11:20 A.M.
