APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for processing: Thomas Paul Coleman - 927 Sussex Drive, South bend, Indiana, 46628 Leo Joseph Ryback - 1020 Lincolnway W., South Bend, Indiana, 46616 APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were filed with the Board and ,referred to ,the Personnel Director for poocessing: William Harrison O'Bannon - 1201 Bis"sell St., So. Bend, Ind., 46614 REQUEST FOR WATER HYDRANTS - BY FIRE DEPARTMENT The request of Fire Chief McHenry for water hydrants in the area from the 1400 block to the 1800 block of North Hickory .Road and in .the area of the 2700 block of East McKinley Avenue was filed with the Board and referred to the Engineering Department for recommendation. RETIREMENT POLICE DEPARTMENT - ARTHUR ERWIN PINE Arthur Erwin Pine files request for retirement from the Police Department and application for retirement pension, having been appointed to the Police Department 4/12/48, said retirement to .take effect 5/l/68. On motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request and application. RETIREMENT - POLICE DEPARTMENT - CHARLES 0, TESKE Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the retirement and application for pension of Charles 0. Teske, said Charles 0. Teske having corppleted over 20 years from 4/12/48. Said pension to become effective 5/l/68. REQUEST FOR PROMOTION - SERGEANT WILLIS SHOEMACHER - POLICE DEPARTMENT Upon the recommendation of Chief McNaughton, the Board approved the promotion of Sergeant Willis Shoemacher to the rank of Captain, to assume command of the Records and Identification Division, effective 5/l/68. REQUEST FOR BOND CANCELLATION - SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER ROBERT RANDEL HENRY The request of Wilkinson Insurance Agency for the cancellation of bond on special police officer Robert Randel Henry (Badge #536) was filed and referred to the Police Department for recommendation. SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - FIRE CHIEF CECIL MCHENRY The request of Chief of Police McNaughton for the appointment of Fire Chief Cecil McHenry as a special police officer was approved by the Board. REQUEST FOR TRAFFIC SIGNS Request of Traffic Engineer Clem Hazinski to install the following traffic signs was approved by -,the Board: NO PARKING HERE TO CORNER - Sign and post of the SPL 1601 S. Main Street, facing north. Paint curb yellow. STOP sign - on Bowman at Ironwood Drive. STOP sign - on Donald at Ironwood Drive. 1330 STREET LIGHT PETITIONS APPROVED: Upon the recommendation of the Traffic Engineering Department, the Board approved street lights as follows: H41 dreth, between Clover and Oakland. Installation of 4000 L OH, on the existing pole at the alley intersection west of 1425. The cost to the city would be $3.15 per month or $37.80 per year. Windingwood and Sylvan Glen - Installation of 4000 L OH, WP street light on the SE corner of Sylvan Glen and Windingwood. The cost to the City would be $3.15 per month or $37.80 per year. 800 N. ,Cushing. Installation of 4000 L OH WP street light mid -block, which would put.the light on a 175' center as opposed to the 200' previously used. Cost to the City would be $3.15 per month or $37.80 per year. Franklin Street between Broadway and Indiana. Installation of two 000 L OH street lights. The cost to the city would be $6.30 per month, or $75.60 per year. SPEED ZONE ADJUSTMENTS Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, reports to the Board that in conjunction with the Indiana State Highway Commission, extensive speed studies have been made on State highways within the city limits and an analysis shows that adjustments should be made in the speed limits at certain locations to facilitate the movement of traffic. Said traffic control improvements are proposed to be made on State Roads #2 and #23 and U. S. Highways #20, #31 and #33. The Board approved such speed zone adjustments,Jas set out in detail and attached as a part of these minutes at page 331. And a map showing such zones is on file with the I-nd,icina,-State i H i*ghw�iy Commiss-ion. The Clerk is ordered to forward a copy of the speed zone adjustments as approved by the Board, to the Indiana State Highway Commission, LaPorte District, P. 0. Box 429, LaPorte, Indiana. MONTHLY REPORT OF THE TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT - for March, 1968 is reviewed and placed on file. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS - for the period 4/8/68 to 4/18/68 are filed. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned. It is agreed by the undersigned on behalf of the City, that the following controls are satisfactory.
