HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/15/68 Board of Public Works MinutesApril 15, 1968. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Work s and Safety convened at 10:00 A.M. on April 15, 1968, with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT Fire Chief McHenry requests the transfer of $2000.00 from Account Q-11 (services - personal) to Account Q-262 (medical), for the reason that two men are now'in the hospital and funds in the medical account are low. The request, upon motion made, seconded and carried, was granted, and the matter was referred to the City Attorney for the preparation of an ordinance for presentation to the Common Council at its next meeting. APPLICATION FOR RETIREMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT The following applications for retirement were submitted by Chief McHenry: Steve J. Horvath - appointed 1/1/45. Retirement date 4/18/68. having served 23 years and 32 months. cS3 Ted Zmudzinski - appointed 3/1/47. Retirement date 5/3/68. Having served 21 years and 2 months. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, said applications for retirement were accepted and approved by the Board. FIREMEN'S PENSION FUND - MEMBERSHIP - DZIALA KIEWICZ Fire Chief McHenry, President of the South Bend Firemen's Pension Board reports Alan John Dzialakiewicz was accepted for membership in the Firemen's Pension Fund 4/12/68, with such membership to coincide with applicant's appointment to the Fire Department, subject to the approval of the Board. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved said application and membership. APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT - DARLIES LEE JONES The application for appointment to the Fire Department by Darlies Lee Jones was filed and referred to the Personnel Director for processing. RESIGNATION FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - JEROME A. FLORKOWSKI The resignation from the Police Department by Officer Jerome A. Florkowski (#251) as of 4/9/68 was presented by Chief McNaughton and, upon motion made, seconded and carried, was approved by the Board. APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS The following applications for appointment as special police officers in and for the City of South Bend were approved by the Board: William Tretheway - 1006 Belleview, South Bend, Indiana Kenneth Tindall - 1003 Ontario, Niles, Michigan Francis Waters - 56435 Westlea Drive, South Bend, Indiana Said above three appointments to terminate upon the termination of the employment with St. Joseph Hospital, or by the action of the Chief of Police, or of this Board. John E. Crawford - 3717 St. Johns Way, South Bend, Indiana. said appointment of John E. Crawford being for the purpose of "store protection" and subject to termination by action of the Chief of Police or this Board, or upon the termination of such "store protection" activity. And said John E. Crawford files bond with the Board in the sum of $1000.00 commencing 4/11/68 for one year by Henry Getz Ins. Agcy. 1328 REQUEST FOR STREET LIGHTS Request for street light by the Lutheran Church of our Redeemer, 29th and Wall Streets, South Bend, Indiana, at the alley between 28th and 29th Streets and on the south side of Wall Street, on an existing pole, was filed and referred to the Engineering Department for investigation and recommendation. REQUEST FOR CHANGE IN LOCATION OF STREET LIGHT Request by O'Brien Corporation, South Bend, Indiana, to change the location of a str et light from the intersection of Grant Street and West Washington Aven e 75 feet to the west, was filed and referred to the Engineering Depart- ment, for investigation and recommendation. Request of South Bend Range Corporation to change the location of the street light located on the north side of the New York Central Railroad tracks, at the point where Cherry Street formerly dead -ended into the tracks, to one -.half block north and.one-half block east to the alley on Napier Street, between Cherry and Chestnut, was filed and referred to the Engineering Depart- ment for investigation and recommendation. STATISTICAL REPORT - POLICE DEPARTMENT Statistical report of the Police Department for March, 1968, was reviewed and filed. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street light outage reports for the period 4/4/68 to 4/9/68 were filed. There being no further business to come before th ard,thel meeting adjourned. Arthur W.
