HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/19/68 Board of Public Works MinutesFebruary 1'9,, 1968 The regular meeting of the Board of Public,Works and Safety was called to order on Tuesday, February 13, with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved by the Board. RZTjR_&'fENT: FIREMAN STEPHEN W. DANIELOWICZ JR Fire Chief Cecil McHenry submitted the application for retirement from the Fire Department from Stephen W. Danielowicz, Jr. He Was appointed February 15, 1948 and wishes to retire on March 1, 1968. He has served 20 years as of February 15, 1968. It was moved, duly seconded and unanimously passed that this retirement be approved. UMLAL AGREEMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT AND CENTRE TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT Fire Chief Cecil McHenry presented the Mutual Aid Agreement between the Fire Department of the City of South Bend and the Centre Township Fire Department. The Board Signed the agreement, and a copy will be given to the Fire Chief, and one sent to the Fire Chief of Centre Township and one filed with the Board of �.. Public Works and Safety. SERGEANT MCMICHAEL TO ATTEND THE INSTITUTE Police Chief Thomas McNaughton presented a request to the Board for Sergeant Harold McMichael to attend the Southern Police Institute Police Administration Program in Louisville, Kentucky during the spring tern, March 18 through June 9, 1968.. A portion of the cost of this school will be covered by a Scholarship Credit which has been granted to Sergeant McMiehael. The motion.:was made., duly; seebOdeci<-and:-oved the 'j--- st. POLICEMEN TO ATTEND BREAZUALYZER SCHOOL Chief Thomas McNaughton presented a request to the Board, stating that applications have been applied for and accepted in the Breathalyzer School of Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana for Patrolman Donald Pinckert and Patrolman Thomas Kellogg to attend on February 19, 1968 for one week. The Board pnanimously approved the request. STOP SIGN INSTALLED ON N. W.-CORNER OF BROADWAY AND RAYMOND COURT Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, asked that the following be added to the minutes of the Board meeting on February 19, 1968: Band a stop sign to the utility pole on tge NW corner of Broadway and Raymond Court. The Board unanimously approved the installation. STREET LIGHTING ON BIRDSELL STREET In response to a complaint by Alfred L. Haynes, Chairman of the Neighborhood Improvement Committee of the Hansel Neighborhood Center, about the street lighting on Birdsell street, the following recommendation was presented by Ralph Wadzinski, Assistant Traffic Director: The 100, 300, 400.and 500 blocks North Birdsell Street had sufficient lighting but the 200 block had none, it was therefore recommended that 2 - 4000 lumen 0. H., W. P. street light be installed on 200 No. Birdsell at the intersection of Birdsell and Orange Streets and across from the North property line of 214 No. Birdsell. The Board unanimously approved the recommendation; NORTH SIDE BOULEVARD STREET LIGiiT Mr. Ralph Wadzinski submitted the following report regarding the Boulevard light on the North Side of 100 W. North Shore Blvd: The I & M Electric Company requests the Boulevard light on the 1312 North Side of 100 W. North Shore Blvd.(h6dway between Michigan St. and Lafayette. -Blvd.) previously used as an experimental location for a town and country installation be reverted back to a 4,000 lumen UG under the Tariff SL. Under this tariff the cost would be $3.10 mo. The reason for the request is that the town and country installation was destroyed and a 4,000 Lumen, UG.was reinstalled.. This light was ordered removed previously in order to remove it from the billing while the experimental installation was made. The Board unanimously approved the request. STREET LIGHT PETITION - CORNER OF CHIPPEWA AND WHITCOMB AVENUES A petition was filed by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Luczkowski and several others to have a street light installed at the corner of Chippewa and Whitcomb Avenues. The petition was filed and sent to the engineering department for further nvestiga�ion and processing. APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPAR T The applications of Ronald Lanchsweerdt and Michael Talbot for the Fire Department were filed by the Board. APPLICATIONS POLICE DEPARMENT The application of John Blankert was filed for the Police Department. STREET TIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS The street light outage reports for the week were filed by the Board.
