February 13, 1968
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order
at 10:00 A. M. with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting.
were reviewed and approved by the Board.
REQUEST TO BID FOR R.9DIOS - FIRE CHIEF
Fire Chief McHenry submitted a request to advertise for six new mobile.radios
complete.
The Board approved the request. The advertisement will run on February 16
and February 23, and bids will be taken on March 4.
REETTREMENT OF FIREMAN BAJDEK AND ROBERT MARTIN
Fire Chief McHenry advised the Board that Benedict Bajdek, who was appointed
on 2/25A8 requests retirement on February 26, 1968. He has served 20 years as of
February 25, 1968.
Robert L. Martin, also requests retirement, he was appointed 2/14/48 and will
retire February 15, 1968. He has served.20 years as of February 14, 1968.
.,. The motion was made, duly seconded and unanimously passed that these retirements
be approved.
RE=TION, SEND - .SNOW ROUTE

On December 4, 1967, Mr. Clem Hazinski submitted a request to the Board that
the City Snow Route,,'e amended to include the following thoroughfares:
1. Logan Street between Edison Road and Northside Blvd.
2. Riverside Drive between Cleveland Road and Darden Road.
3. Sample Street from Olive to Mayflower Road.

On February 3, a communication was received from Mr. Noell regarding the
amendment and the Board now makes the following resolution:
That the three thoroughfares mentioned above be added to the snow routes
of the City.
This was moved, duly peeonded.�_u}d unanimously passed by the Board,
TRAFFIC ENGINEER - STOP SIGNS INSTALLED
Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, has asked that the following be added
to the minutes of this meeting:
Stop sign and post installed on the S. E. Corner of Harbor at Eisenhower
Stop sign and post on the N. W. Corner of Delano at Corby.
Stop sign and post on the S. E. Corner of Delano at Victory.
The Board approved the new installations.
TrafFIC ENGINEER_- PARKING METERS REMOVED 200 BLOCK SO ST JOSEPH ST.
Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, recommended that meters 7, 9, and 11 be
removed from the west side of the 200 block of St. Joseph St. to provide for
an entrance and exit to the work area at the construction site of the new
St. Joseph Bank Bldg.
The Board approved the recommendation.
PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT BETWEEN HURON AND FORD ON CARLISLE
A petition was filed by Stella PJlodarski of 516 So. Carlisle and others for a
street light to be installed on Carlisle Street between Huron and Ford.
The Board filed the petition and a copy is to be sent to the engineering
department.
PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT AT ALLEY AT 1 02 SO 2 TH STREET
A petition was filed by Mr. & Mrs. Robert C.-Shaffer of 1306 So. 29th St and
others to have a -street light installed.at the alley at 1302 So. 29th Street.
The Board filed the petition and a copy is to be sent to the engineering office.
APPLICATION FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT
Applications for the Police Department were filed by Thomas Leo Dutrieux and
Edwin Carrol Byrd.
PISTOL TEAM REQUEST TQ ATTEND C IONSHIPS AT JaEA FLORIDA
Chief McNaughton submitted a request that the department pistol team be allowed to
attend the Mid -winter National Championships at Tampa Florida on March 3, 1968
through March 14, 1968. The expenses of the trip of being paid by the FOP Lodge.
The following officers will attend: Sgt. R. Albright, Sgt. D. Foy, Sgt. R. Seals,
Officer G. Zubler, Officer J. Szweda, and Officer W. Floring will alternate if any
others cannot attend.
It was moved, duly seconded and unanimously passed that the request be approved.
RESIGNATIQN OF OF ICER DABROS
The resignation of David L. Dabros -from ,the,.2ol.ide Department was accepted
effective May 1, 19&7, the same date of his temporary suspension.
POLICE DEPARTMENT',- MONTHLY REPORT
The monthly report of the Police Department was filed by the Board.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
The street light outage reports for the week Were approved by the Board.
REQUEST - DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL DEFENSE
Mr. John Klaybor, Director of the Department of Civil Defense, requested from the
Board of Public Works and the Fire Chief that they allow Mr. Carl B. Lederer, a
member of the South Bend Fire Department to be excused from his normal tour of
duties to give a 16 hour radiological course at the State Highway gae in LaPorte,
Indiana, from 9:00 A. M; to 4:00 P. M. on March 4, 5, 6, `7; 25th, and 26th/
Tijis course would*be open to the entire state highway department, county high-
way department and also the City Street Department. The course for any man
attending is two days and three courses will be given.
The Board approved the request and the Fire'Chief also agreed to cooperate.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
