The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was opened at
10:00'A.M. with all members present.

APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT - NELSON andCRAMER
John Nelson: 1311 E. Monroe Street, South Bend, Indiana, and Keith Cramer,
1410 E. Donald Street, South Bend, Indiana, having filed their applications
for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department and having passed all
physical requirements for appointment and having been approved by the
Firemen's Pension Board, the said John Nelson and Keith Cramer are hereby
appointed to the South BendFire Department , effective January 1, 1968.

- REQUEST FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SEND CAPT. PAUL NESTER STACHOWICZ TO
FBI SESSION
Letter from Chief of Police McNaughton dated 1/2/68 to the Board of
Public Works and Safety requesting approval for Captain Nester Paul
Stachowicz to attend the 81st Session of the FBI National Academy for a
period of 12 weeks at the invitation of the United States Department of
C-) Justice, was read and on motion duly made, seconded and carried,
approval was granted, and the clerk was ordered to send a photostat of
such approval to Chief of Police McNaughton.
SPECIAL POLICE.- RECOMMENDATION - VANDERHEYDEN AND FRICK
Recommendations were submitted for the appointment of Leo A. VanderHeyden,
206 Gernhard, Mishawaka, Indiana, as special police officer fmr Asspciates Invest-
ment Company; and -of Iden L. Frick, 906 E. Victoria Street, South Bend,
Indiana, as special police officer for Fabricated Steel Products.
No bonds were submitted with the recommendations; and were therefore
approved subject to bonds being submitted to the Board of Public Works and
Safety as provided by statute.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street light outage reports for the week were accepted and ordered filed.
