The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order
at 10:00 A. M. with members Robert J. DuComb and James A. Bickel present. The
minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
APPOINMENT OF ARTHUR JACK HARLEY SR TO FIRE DEPARTMENT
By resolution of the Board of Public Works and Safety duly passed unanimously this
date, Arthur Jack Harley, Sr., Age 28, of 928 E. Edison Street of South Bend, Indiana,
is hereby appointed to the South Bend Fire Department as a Fireman upon the
recommendation of the Chief of said Department, Cecil McHenry, it having been deter-
mined that a vacancy exists in said Department, such appointment is effective
September 1, 1967. -
RE VEST FOR DISABILITY PENSION FOR FIREMAN CHMMS R HULLING-FR.
The South Bend Firemen's Pension Board has this date submitted to the Board of
Public Works and Safety their report setting forth that a medical report from the
Pension Board's physician indicates that Fireman Charles R. Hullinger is unable,
due to physical disability, to perform the duties of an active fireman for theSouth Bend Fire Department. The Board of Public Works and Safety approves the
request of q payment of disability pension effective August 16, 1967, said pension
to be payable in accordance with the statutes of the City of South Bend, Indiana.
REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS FILED FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT
A request for the transfer of funds from Q-11 (Services Personal) to Q-252 (repairs
of Equipment in the amount of $400.00 and From Q-11 ( Services Personal) to Q-721
(Furniture & Equipment) in the amount of $2,000.00 was filed and referred to the
City Attorney for preparation of an Ordinance
REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT
Resolution #111 - Unanimously passed by the Board of Ei blic Works, the sum. of
$670.00 is hereby transferred from Account A-224 (Water) in the following manner;
$420.00 of said sum is ordered transferred to Account Q-221 (Electric Current) and
$250.00 is ordered transferred to Q-222 (Gas) all in the General Fund.
REQUEST TO ATTEND INDIANA FIRE CHIEF CONFERENCE.
Fire Chief McHenry requested permission to attend the Indiana Fire Chiefs Conference
at Michigan City, Indiana on Augst 22, 23, 24 and 25th. The request was granted.
FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION
An application for the Fire Department from David Lee Abbiehtas filed by the Board.
POLICE DEPARTMENT &PLICATION
Applications for the police department were filed for Michael Jan Jones and Thomas
Grant Kellogg.
REQUEST FOR RETIREMENT FRCU THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Sgt. Raymond T. Pierson has this date submitted to the Board of Public Works and
Safety his letter of retirement from the South Bend Police Department, and it ha ving
been verified that this police officer will have completed twenty years of service on the
South Bend Department on the 6th day of October, 1967, his request for retirement is
hereby approved unanimously by the Board by resolution effective October 7, 1967.
Sgt. John R. Niezgodski has this date submitted to the Board of Public Works and Safety
his letter of retirement from the South Bend P.�lice Department, and it having been
verified that this police officer will have completed twenty years of service on the
police Department on the 15th day of October., 1967, his request for retirement is
hereby approved unanimously by the Board by resolution effective October 16, 1967.

Lt. R. E. Badics has this date submitted to the Board of Public Works and Safety his
letter of retirement from the South Bend Police Department, and it having been
verified that this police officer will have ccppleted twenty years of service on the
South Bend Police Department on the 6th day of October, 1967, his request for
retirement -is hereby approved unanimously by the Board by resolution effective
October 7, 1967.
APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL POLICE APPROVED BY THE BOARD
The application of Chester C. Spychalski, 1221. So. Lafayette Blvd. as a Special
Police Office for the South Bend Tribune was approved by the Board.
SPECIAL POLICEMANIS BOND APPROVED
Special policeman's bonds were approved for Robert Garmnage and Ora E. North.
