The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to
order with members Lloyd Taylor and James A. Bickel in attendance. The minutes
of the previous meeting were read and approved.
REQUEST OF CAPTAIN LOREN BUSSERT
A request was received from Captain Loren Bussert for permission to accept the Federal
Fellowship awarded him through the Law Enforcement Assixtance AcIr of 1965. This
Fellowship will result in a Masterts Degree in Police Administration and will re-
quire attendance at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. in New York City
for the period of one year, from September 1, 1967 through August 31, 1968.
Captain Bussert also requested that he might be demoted from his present rank
of Captain to the rank of Patrolman while attending this school.
The Board approved the requests, and the Secretary was instructed to write a
letter of Congratulations from the Board to Captain Bussert.
REQUEST FRCM CHIEF MCHENRY - CAPTAIN HESS AND LT CARL LEDERER TO ATTEND CONF_
Fire Chief Cecil McHenry appeared before the Board and requested permission for
ap Captain Glenn Hess and,Lt. Carl Lederer to attend the Indiana Firemen's
Association Conference on August 4th in Indianapolis. The request was approved
V by the Board.
SIGN CHANGE - TRAFFIC DIRECTOR - CLEM HAZINSKI
Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, asked that the following be added to the
minutes:
Change the Yield Sign to a Stop sign at the Northwest corner of
Wh.iteoak and Corby.
,SPECIAL POLICE BOND
Special Police bonds were approved for Chester Spychalski and Boyd Jimerson for
the South Bend Tribune.
APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT
Police Department Applications were filed .-. from John Joseph Brassell, Eldon
Herbert Haden, James Silas Tahor and Hiram A. Bonds.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
The Street light outage reports for the week were approved by the Board.
