The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order with
members Robert j. DuComb and James A. Bickel present. The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and approved.
PROMOTION OF THOMAS H. MCNAUGHT.ON - POLLICE CHIEF
By unanimous resolution of the Board of Public Works and Safety, Thomas H. McNaughton,
presently assistant Chief of th& South Bend Police Department and acting Chief, is
hereby promoted to the office of the Chief of the Police Department due to the
vacancy caused by the retirement of Irvin Hampton, said appointment to be effective
June 3, 1967.
PRCMOTION.- PATROLMAN RUDOLPH HORVATH
Chief Thomas McNaughton appeared before the Board this date and recommended to the
Board of Public Works and Safety the promotion of Patrolman Rudolph Horvath of the
Police Department to the rank of Sergeant. The Board recommends unanimously the
promotion and Officer Horvath is hereby appointed to the rank of Sergeant effective
June 16, 1967.
TRANSFER OF FUNDS - POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Thomas McNaughton appeared before the Board and asked for a transfer of funds
and the Board approving hereby made the following Resolutioil:
RESOLUTION # S.: Unanimously passed by the Board, the sum of $3,834.00 is hereby
transferred from Account P-722 (Motor Equipment) in the following manner:
$2434-00 of said sum is ordered transferred to Account P-725 (Office Equipment)
and $1400.00 is ordered transferred to P-7 26 (Other Equipment) all in the
general fund.
SPECIAL POLICEOFFICER APPROVAL OF RICHARD JOSEPH DUNLAP
A special police officer application was approved for Richard Joseph Dunlap.
FIRE DEPARTMENT - WILLIAM T. SCHMIDT TO TEACH SCHOOL
Fire Chief McHenry appeared before the Board'and requested permission for
Lieutenant William T. Schmidt to be in Muskegon, Michigan, June_-15, 16 and 17
to teach Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting at the Norton Fire Department in
Muskegon.
The Board approved the request.
CCdVMUNICATION FROM DONALD MYERS
Another communication was received from Donald Myers from the Headquarters of
Communications systems Radio Patrol. The letter was referred to Fire Chief
McHenry for a report.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
The street light outage reports for the week were approved and ordered filed by
the Board.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
