The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order
at 10:00 A. M. with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting
were read and approved.
RESOLUTION TRANSFER OF FUND'.
The South Bend Police Department Chief of Police having this date requested the
Board of Safety to make a fund transfer, the Board pursuant to said request
approved the following resolution unanimously:
Resolution #4: "The sum,, . of $100.00 is hereby ordered transferred from P-212
postage to P-211 Freight."
DET. SGT. BROWN RETIREMENT
Detective Sgt. Brown having this date submitted to the Board of Safety his
request for retirement upon his expiration of twenty one years of service
same is hereby, by unanimous resolution of the Board accepted effective
March 31, 1967, and said officer is authorized to take his vacation starting
three weeks previous to said retirement.
CHIEF IRVIN HAMPTON RETIREMENT
Mrvin Hampton, Chief of the Police Department having submitted to the Board
of Safety his notice of intent to retire after having completed twenty years
of service, same his hereby approved unanimously by the Board effective
June 5, 1967, said officer is to retire during his vacation commencing
on May 12, 1967.
EXTENSION OF SICK TIME FLOYD CHRAPLIWY
Detective Sergeant Floyd Chrapliwy was given an extension of sick time
through March 27th, 1967, after a recommendation of Chief Irvin Hampton.
TRAFFIC SIGNS 200 BLOCK NO HILL
Mr. Clem Hazinski,.Traffic Director asked that the following be approved by the
Board of Works:
Change the present 2 Hour Parking signs on the West Side
of the 200 block of No. Hill to 30 Minute Parking across
from St. Joseph Church.
Same was approved.
STREET LIGHT PETITION 3000 West Calvert
Several residents in the vicinity of 2900 W. Calvert Street to 3000 W. Calvert
Street submitted a petition to install a street light at that location. The
Board filed the petition and a copy was sent to the Engineers office for study
and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT DENIED - VICTORIA STREET
Mr. Ralph Wadzinski, Asst. Traffic Engineer submitted a report to the Board
recommending that a street light in the 300-499-block of E. Victoria be
denied. They will order the I & M to put longer arms over the center of the
intersection allowing the light to go around existing trees.
POLICE APPLICATIONS
APPLications for the Police Department from Henry Lee Underwood and Donald Arthur
Roszkowski were filed by the Board.
PETITION - STREET LIGHTS ON GREENLAWN
Action on a petition to install new 4,000 lumen street lights at the Greenlawn
Avenue intersections with Wayne St. and Sum-imede Avenue was deferred until the
next meeting.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
The street light outage reports for the week were approved and ordered filed.
