HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/12/66 Board of Public Works MinutesDecember 12, 1966 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was opend at 10:00 with all membgrs present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. POLICE DEPARTMENT APPOINTMENT iercme D Kreczmer Jerome D. Kreczmer having been recommended for appointment to the South Bend Police Department by Chief Irvin Hampton and it having been shown that said applicant is qualified to be appointed as a policeman of the South Bend Police Department, it is now hereby ordered by the Board of Public Works and Safety that Jerome D. Kreczmer be appointed as a probationary officer in the Department effective December 1, 1966. INSTALLATION OF ADDITIONAL PARKING METERS Mr. Clem Hazinski, Director of Traffic Engineering has requested that one -hour }narking meters be installed at the following locations: 1. Install one meter; 300 block So. St. Joseph St. on the west side of the street in a space adjacent to present meter P . This is the fifth space south of East Wayne St. �. 2. Install two meters: 200 block South St. Joseph St. on the west side of the street in two spaces adjacent to present meter #23. These are the second and third spaces north of East Wayne Street. 3. Install one meter: 100 block of East Wayne Street on the South side of the street in a space adjacent to present meter #14. The Rbard approved the preceding installation. APPROVAL: STREET LIGHT FOR 700 SO 30TH STREET The Board approved a recommendation from Ralph J. Wadzinski, Asst. Traffic Engineer for a 4,000 lumen over -head light at installed at the East-West alley interesection, midblock, un:the 700 block of so. 36th Street, as there is quite a bit of vandalism in the area. APPROVAL: STREET LIGHT FOR 21st STREET The Board approved a recommendation from Ralph Wadzinski for a 4,000 Lumen street light be installed midblock at the alley intersection in the 900 block of 21st Street APPROVAL: REVISION OF LIGHTS ON NORTH SHORE BLVD. Mr. Ralph Wadzinski recommended that a revision of Mr. Frostts proposal for a revision of lights on North Shore Drive be approved as follows: 1. Increase the existing 4,000 L incandescent 0. H. street light at Lafayette and North Shore to a 7,000 L. Mercury Vapor O. H. street light. This is an increase of $.60/ month to the City 2. Remove all indicated street lights as noted by Mr. Frost. 3. Delete Mr. Frost's proposal for 4-7000 L.M.V., 0. H. street lights 4. Install 3 - 7,000 L., M.V., 0. H. street lights as sh n in Red )on attached map) at approximate -equal distances. The Board approved this revision. APPROVAL: STREET LIGHT FOR FLCRINE COURT The Board approved a recommendation from Ralph Wadzinski, asst. traffic director that a 4,000 lumen street light repla ce the inadequate 1,000 lumen-'O.-_ght that is at F1ordiva Court at the present time. APPROVAL: STREET LIGHT AT 400 SO. LIBERTY DRIVE The Board approved a recommendation from the asst. Traffic Director that a 4,000 lumen overhead street light be installed mid -block at 400 So. Liberty Drive. TRAFFIC DIRECTOR - SIGNS Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, has asked that the following signe be approved by the Board of Public Works: 1. No. Parking signs & posts across from 1705 Wall St. to cover yellow curb. 2. Paint curbs yellow across from Mishawaka Ave. at Esther 3. Extend the yelloww curb & install No. Parking signs in front of John Adams High School on Mishawaka Ave.at Bellevue. 4. On 500 & 600 E. Klinger, install No Parking This Side signs at the following locations: Between Fellows & 502 536 & Southwise Circle " Southwise Circle & 620 " 63.0 & Parking Bay East of 630 5. Install No Parking This Side signs on Southwise Circle 3400 & 3500 So. at the following locations: Between Klinger & 3412 If 3508 and 3510 6. Install No Parking This Bide signs on South Langley Drive (3500-3800 South) at the following locations Between 3503 and 3515 '► 3529 and 3545 " 3547 and 3555 " 3601 and 3603 " 3611 and 3615 South Property Line of 3701 If if IT of 3721 (7. Install No Parking This Side signs & Posts on Southmore Drive (500-600 East) at the following locations Between 518 and 524 In front of 602 Between 608 (bgt closer to) 612 8. Install No Parking This Side signs & posts at Montgolfier (3800-3900 South) at the following locations: Between Parking Bay & 3954 it 3936 and 3908 " 3902 and 3822 " 3806 and Southmore Drive STOP SIGN AT_SHERIDAN Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director asked that the Board approve the installation of a Stop Sign at Sheridan, Ardmore and Prast making this a 5 way stop. Same was approved. REQUEST - SHELTERS FOR POLICE WCidlEN Captain Bussert appeared before the Board with a request that shelters be built at several locations name in the report for Policewomen. He also presented pictures of these shelters. This report was filed and was taken under advisement by the Board. POLICE APPLICATIONS The following police applications were filed by the Board: Thomas Michael Keres, William Edwin Hazelip, Charles Edwin Niblick, Ernest Michael Freymuth and Ronald Joseph Farkas. STREET, LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS The Street Light Outage Reports were approved and ordered filed by the Board. 231 There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 12:00 noon. J 1 1
