The regular session of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order
at 10:00 A. M. with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting
were read and approved.
POLICE DEPARTMENT CAR BID
This being the date set sealed bids were presented by the clerk to be opened for
the car for the police department.
Proof of publication from the South Bend Tribune with affidavit signed by Robert
Delong, and from the Tri-County News with affidavit signed by Alfred Snyder II
were read and found sufficient. The following bids were received:

The bid of Gates Chevrolet being the lowest and best bid in the interest of the
City, their bid was accepted.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO USE WANE TALKIE RADIOS
The South Bend Police Department having this date requested the Board of Public
Safety that it be permitted #:ffective_October 31, 1966 to use the new walkie talkie
radios instead of the phone boxes now located on the street corners of the various

beats and the Board being duly advised, now grants permission for the police de-
partment to use the new Walkie Talkie Radios and:di,scontinue the call, boxes
effective October 31, 1966 and to notify the Indiana Bell Telephone Company of
such action, and their sertice is no longer required.
LORENEO HILL HEARING
On behalf of his client, Officer Lorenzo Hill, Patrick Brennan has requested that
this hearing be postponed until October 24 at 3:30 P. M. until he has had adequate
time to prepare case for officer Lorenzo Dill who has been suspended by Police
Department for charges on file with the Board of Works and Safety.
Postponement of hearing is hereby granted and hearing is set for October 24 at
3:30 P. M. in the conference room.
FIRE DEPARTMENT - DEMOTION OF BANACH
Cecil McHenry having this date requested the demotion of Lieutenant Robert Banach
from the rank of Lieutenant to Private bacause of his prolonged illness in the
hospital, and it being necessary to fill his office, same :is hereby granted
effective this date.
ATREET LIGHT PETITION - LIBERTY STREET

A street light petition signed by numerous citizens in the vicinity of 430.or
434 Liberty Street was filed by the Board and referred to the Engineering
Department for study and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT PETITION- 1900-2000 LBOCK OF NORTH OLIVE ST._
Street light petition signed by several residents in the 1900-2000 block of
North Olive Street was filed by the Board and referred to the Engineering Dept.
for study and recommendation.
CLEM HAZINSKI-TRAFFIC SIGNS
Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, asked that the following signs be added to
the minutes of this meeting:
1. 6 no Parking sigs (6AM - 6 PM) Mon. thru Friday, Sat. & Sun. Permitted
signs on the west side of Olive. This is the 100-200-300 block of
So. Olive St. Remove present N.P.T.S. signs.
2. STOP signs& post on Grove at Sussex.
3. STOP signs on Grove Street at Canterbury.
4. STOH signs at Maple Lane School at the interesection of Rose and
Northern Avenue.
5. STOP sign & post on Scottswood at Twyckenham.
6. ONE HOUR PARKING signs at 1142 W. Washington on existing post.
POLICE APPLICATIONS
Thomas Leslie Gargis andJerry John VanDeWielle submitted applications for the
police department which were ordered filed by the Board.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
The street light outage reports were approved and ordered filed by the Board.
SPECIAL POLICE BONDS
The following special police bonds were approved and ordered filed by the Board:
George Doy, J. Charles Datrieux and Russell A. Jester.
