July:8, 1966
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was called to order
at 10:00 A. M. with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting
were read and approved.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - RETIREMENT OF DANIEL WISKOTONI
Upon the request of Officer Daniel. Wiskotoni the Board approved his resignation
from the Bolice Department effective August 1, 1966, after 20 years and 7 months
and 21 days.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - RETIREMENT OF EUGENE R. NOVA
Upon the request of Officer Eugene R. Nova, the Board approved his retirement
from the Police Department after having served twenty years on the Department
on December 10, 1965. . 1 's
Officer Nova requested that the start his terminal, leave on �uly'19, 1966 -and his
retirement to be effective August 2, 1966.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - STREET LIGHT
Eugene Radecki, Electrical Department Superintendant submitted a report with
reference to a Petition for a street light from residents in the 900 block of 32nd
Street.
Mr. Radecki reported that because of the many tall trees in the area, and in view
of this condition, the Department recommends the installation of a 40001umen
street light midblock.
The Board approved the installation.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - STREET LIGHT
Mr. Radecki also submitted a report on the Petition for a street light in the
1300 block of East Washington St.
lb'Ir. Radecki reported this area was dark due to a tree condition and recommended
the installation of a 4000 lumen street light on existing pole J 260-220.
The Board approved same.
PBLICE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION
The following applications for the Police Department were accepted ;and ordered
placed on file: Steve Alex Bacsa, Joseph Edward Garstecki and Q. T. Coburn.
PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE: POLICE DEPARTMENT
Permission was granted to the Police Department to advertise for the purchase of
six portable Handie Talkie Radios complete with two channel transmit, T154.890
T 155.130 and one channel receive T155.130.
TRAFFIC -ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: REPORT ON HAZARDS IN CERTAIN DEPARTMENTS
A report on the correction of Hazards in the Sewage .Treatment Plant, in the Street
Department, Water Works, City Cemetaryand Newman Recreation Center. Copies of
letters to the these departments from Clem F. Hazinski, Chairman, City Employees
Safety Committee, with regard to certain hazarous conditions found to exist at
the time the premises of the locations were investigated on May 25 and 26-: 1966
by the Insurance Company of North America. Recommendations were made for the
correction of these conditions, with request that a report be made to the
Board of Works reference feasibility of the recommendations.
OLMING OF BID - CCIVIlMICATIONS CONTROL CENTER
The Board of Public Works having on June 27, 1966 opened and accepted bids for the
installation of a Communications Control Center Facility being erected by the City
and said bids having been examined, the City of South Bend now,has accepted the bid
of the Motorola Comfy as being the lowest and best bid and awards same.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
