The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and safety was called to order
at 10:00 A. M. with Members.James A. Bickel and Lloyd Taylor present, Lloyd
Taylor presiding. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and
approved.
POLICE DEPAR NT - RETIRENONT - RICHARD UHL - ERNEST RICE
Assistant Chief McNaughton appeared and: presented a request for a retirement
from Richard C. Uhl, approved by Irvin C. Hampton, Chief. Richard C. Uhl: was
appointed on June 24, 1944 and has completed 21 years of service, effective
retirement date to be May 16, 1966, vacation starting on April. 9, 1966
through May 11 ,1966 with terminal leave starting May 2 and including
May 16, 1966.
Chief McNaughton also presented a request for retirement from Ernest E. Rice
approved by Chief Hampton:. Mr. Rice was appointed March 9, 1942 and has
completed 24 years of service, effective retirement date to be May 20, 1966.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - PRCIUIOTON CHESTER KOLBER
Chief McNaughton presented an order signed by Chief Hampton that effective
May 1, 1966, Patrolman Chester Kolber be promoted to the rank of Desk Sgt.
of the Third Detail.
The preceding requests were approved and ordered filed by the Board.
REQUEST - STREET LIGHT 533 LELAND AVE
A request from Mrs. Max Jacobs in install a street light in the rear of
533 Leland avenue was ordered filed and referred to Gene Radecki for
further study and investigation.
REQUEST STREET LIGHT - ALLEY IN REAR OF 2130 W WASHINGTON
A request from the --property owners at 2126-2134 W. Washington St. for a
street light to be placed in the rear of 2130 W. Washington St. and also.
signed by Walter Szymkowiak was filed by the Board and referred to Gene
Radecki for investigation and further study.
REQUEST - STREET LIGHT - FIRST ALLEY WEST OF MIMI O- IRVINGTON
A reqeust from the property owners in the vicinity of Miami and Irvington
to have a street light at the first alley west of Miami on Irvington was
presented,.
The board referred the petition to Mr. Gene Radecki for further investigation
and study.
REQUEST - REMOVAL OF PARKING METERS WESTERN AVENUE AT MAIN STREET
A letter from Mr. Clem F. Hazinski, Traffic Director, recommending the removail
of parking meters on Western Avenue at Main st. for the purpose of providing
cubbcuts for driveways at the site of a service station construction at the
Southeast corner of Main and Western.
It is recommended that meters #14 through #26 be removed from the South side
of Western Avenue in the half block east of Main street. Also that meters #2 and #4
be removed from the East side of Main St. -in the half block south of Western.
As soon as the new walks and drives are completed, as mashy meters as possible
will be replaced.
The Board approved the request.

PROPOSED STREET LIGHTING ON PORTAGE AVENUE FROM NAVARRE TO ANGEL.
Mr. Gene Radecki gave the following proposed street lighting plan on Portage
Avenue from Navarre to Angeiha Ave.

A request to have permission to trim trees would have to be issued vl.ong
with the approval of this proposal. This would also add to better street
lighting on Portage Avenue.
The preceding proposal on this lighting plan was referred to Mr. Taylor
City Engineer for further study.
TMMICE ENGINEER - STOP SIGN
Mr. Clem Haznski, Traffic Engineer, asked that the following be added to
the records of this meeting.
"STOP sign and post at the exit of the new Atanl.ey Clark School in
the 1000 block of E. Donmoyer on the south side of the street.
POND SPECIAL POLICE VA KIRK
A renewal of the special police bond for Maria Mia Van Kirk was signed by
Chief Hampton and approved by the Board to be filed.
POLICE APPLICATION - CALVIN EVERLY
En application for the Police Department -from. Calvin James Everly was approved
and ordered filed by the Board.
STREET OUTAGE REPORTS
The street outage reports for the week were approved and ordered filed.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 11:00 A. M.
