The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was held at 10:00 AM
on April 18, 1966 with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting
were read and accepted.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - SGT. JOSEPH SZALAY
Irvin C. Hampton submitted a request that Sgt. Joseph Szalay will be reduced to the
rank of patrolman at his own request.
Sgt. Joseph Szalay of the South Bend Police Department having submitted his
resignation as Serggant effective May lst, 1966, same is hereby accepted and it
is ordered that he be reduced to the rank of Patrolman May 1, 1966. He will
continue his assignment with the third Detail.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - OFFICER FRED GANTERT JR
Officer Fred Gantert, Jr. - Irvin C. Hampton, Chief of the Police Department
having recommended the promotion of Officer Fred Gantert, Jr. to the rank of
Sergeant, same is hereby approved and Fred Gantert is hereby appointed as
�• Sergeant on the South Bend Police Force Effective April 16, 1966.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - MONTHLY REPORT

The monthly report for March 1966 was submitted by Chief Irvin, Hampton and
approved for filing.
FIRE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST FOR ARMY RESERVE - LESLIE WILLI ON
Fire Chief Cecil McHenry submitted a request asking that fireman, Leslie
Williamson be permitted to attend reserve training at Ft. Customer on April 30,
in South Bend on May 22nd and June 5th, also from June l8th to July 2, 1966
at Salt Lake City, Utah.
Tne Board approved the preceding request.
PETITION STREET LIGHTS - VIKING DRIVE - GLENVIEW DRIVE
A petition signed by sereral residents in the vicinity and brought to the
Board by Councilman Richard Geib, requests a streetlight at 1416, 1419,
or 1420 Viking Drive, another at Glenview Drive and Viking Drive and the
third between 1354 Viking Drive and 1330 Viking Drive more toward but not
in front of 1330 Viking Drive.
This petition was ordered filed and sent to Mr. Radecki for investigatioh
and recommendation.
SIGNS - TRAFFIC CONTROL
The following traffic signs were submitted by Traffic Director, Clem Hazinski
and approved by the Board:
STOP signs and posts on St. Joseph at Woodside.
STOP signs and posts on St. Joseph at Oakside
STOP signs and posts on Carroll at Woodside
STOP signs and posts on Carroll at Oakside.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION
An application for the police department from David Fenn was approved and
ordered filed by the Board.
FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION
An application for'the.Fire Depa rtment from Keith Lewis Cramer was approved by
the Board and ordered filed.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPMTS
The street light outage reports were accepted and ordered filed.
