HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/31/66 Board of Public Works Minutes148 January 31, 1966 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, January 31, 1966 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORT: RESTAURANT LICENSES A letter from the Health Department containing the names of the _56 restaurants that have not as yet procured restaurant licenses for 1966 was submitted to the Board. Since this is the last day to obtain such licenses, the City Controller suggested that the list be turned over to him and, at the end of this day, those who have not obtained licenses for 1966 will be listed and said list be submitted to the City Attorney for legal action. This )procedure was approved by the Board. AGREEMENT: PORTAGE TOWNSHIP FIRE PROTECTION- An Agreement between the City of South Bend and Portage Township for fire protection for the year 1966 was executed by the Board and ordered placed on file. POLICE DEPARTMENT: RESIGNATION ( OFFICER R. WILSON ) Officer Richard K. Wilson, having this date tendered his resignation from the South Bend Police Department for the reason that he has employment elsewhere, said resignation is accepted by the Board, effective January 24, 1966. SPECIAL POLICE CCINISSIONS AND BOND ( BENDIX CORPORATION A blanket Special Police Bond effective from January 1, 1966 to December 31, 1968, and Special Police Commissions for guards employed by Bendix Corporation were approved and ordered placed on file: Following is a list of Special Police presently employed by Bendix Corporation: E. 0. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE - DEMOLITION ) Richard Liszewski, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department, appeared before the Board to request permission to advertise for bids for demolition for the following sub -standard dwellings: Property located at 616 Fellows Street, owned by Mary Moore. Property is presently vacant and open. Permission granted to advertise for bids for demolition. Property located at 534 N. St. Louis Boulevard, owned by George E. and Ruth Clayton. Building is posted and vacant. Permission granted to advertise for bids for demolition. SUB -STANDARD DIVISION: HEARINGS With reference to property located at 617 Neddo Court, Mr. Liszewski advised the Board that this property, formerly owned by Jewell Williams, has been purchased by James Bamber who has indicated that he intends to demolish the property at his own expense. He requested a 60 day extension for such demolition. Mr. Robert Mahoney, attorney,_ appeared fpr owner. Extension granted. Mr. Liszewski requested permission to post property located at 705 Wenger Street as sub -standard. The owner c£ this property are` Irvin,. and Sherry Hodges. Extension granted and Mr. Liszewski was requosted.to check property at expiration of 60 days to determine what progress has been made on repairs.
