HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/13/65 Board of Public Works Minutes1 December 13, 1965 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, December 13, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the -Various suppliers. POLICE.:DEP.ARTMENT-PRCMOTION ( LT. J. J. PERKINS ) Police Chief Hampton, having this date requested the promotion of Jerome J. Perkins, a Lieutenant on the South Bend Police Department, from the rank of Lieutenant to Captain, effective January'l, 1966, same is hereby ordered by the Board this date to be effective on the lst day of January, 1966. PE 1 tIISSION TO ADVERTISE: POLICE DEMTMENT ( 47 CARS ) Permission was granted to the Police Department to advertise for 4.7 automobiles for the use of the Department. Advertisements will be placed in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News on December 24, and December 31, 1965. Sealed bids All be opened on January 17, 1966. APPLICATION: POLICE AUXILIARY SCHOOL PATROL An application from Mrs. Nanne L. Morgan for the Police Auxiliary School.Patrol was accepted and ordered placed on file. FIRE DEPARTMENT: APPOINTMENT ( L. N. WILLIAMSON ) The application of Leslie Norris Williamson having been examined by the Board of Public Works & Safety and he having successfully passed the physical examination for appointment to the Fire Department and having met all other qualifications for a fireman, Leslie Norris Williamson is hereby appointed to the Fire Department, effective December 16, 1965. FIRE DEPARTMENT: APPOINTMENT ( ROBERT EUCENE NAWR.00KI ) The application of Robert Eugene Nawrocki having been examined by the Board of Public Works & Safety and he having successful] passed 'the physical examination for appointment to the Fire Department and having met all other qualifications for a fireman, Robert Eugene Nawrocki is hereby appointed to the Fire Department, effective January 1, 1966. FIRE DEPARTMENT: PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE ( AERIAL TRUCK ) Permission was granted to the Fire Department to advertise for an aerial truck for use of the Fire Department. Advertisements will be placed in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News on December 171 1965, December 24, 1965. Sealed bids will be opened on January 24, 1966. FIRE DEPARTMENT: SUSPENSION ( MARVIN BALDWIN ) Fire Chief McHenry appeared before the Board and submitted a letter advising that he had suspended Private Marvin Baldwin of the Fire Department for violation of the Rules and Regulations of the Fire Department. The suspension occurred on December 4, 1965. The Board will examine the alleged violations and arrange for a hearing at a later date. The letter was ordered placed on file.with the Legal Department. 3 FIRE DEPARTMENT: APPLICATION . ( EDWIN J. KACZtVIAM, JR. ) An application for the Fare Department from Edwin J. Kaezmarek, Jr. was accepted and.ordered placed on file. PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT A Petition for a street light on East Irvington Avenue between St. Joseph Street and Carroll. Street was submitted by Councilman Edwin T. Smith and signed by residents of the area. The Petition was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation, STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPOTS Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION Comes now Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standard Division Director, and requested permission to post building at 2421 Bertrand Street as sub -standard. Mr. Liszewski reported that the property is owned by Anna L. Wilson and that repairs which were ordered have not been accomplished. Permission granted to post building as sub -standard until repairs are made, in accordance with Mr. Liszewskits request. TRAFFIC SIGN INSTALLATIONS The following traffic sign installations were approved by the Board; These installations have been made: 1. "Yield" sign at S.W. corner of Jefferson and St. Louis Blvd. 2. "Do Not Enter" sign on the back of the Yield sign. 3. "No Parking This Side" signs on the south side of Jefferson from Hill Street to St. Louis Blvd. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 11:10 A.M.
