A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday
November 29, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of
the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION (HEARINGS )
Mr. Richard Liszewski, Director of the Sub -Standard Division, appeared
before the Board with reports on -the following sub -standard dwellings:
With reference to property located at 616 Fellows Street, owned by Mary
Moore, Mr, Liszewski was granted permission by the Board to post this
dwelling as sub -standard.
With reference to property located at 2119 '1. Bertrand, owned by Ellis
�+ and Helen Shurn, Mr. Liszewski requested a 30 day extension in order to
CTd allow the owners sufficient time to make the necessary repairs.
Permission granted.
PARK DEPARTW NT: TREE TRII&ING ( NOTRE DAME AVENUE )
Mr. DuComb, Board Chairman, directed that a letter be sent to Mr. Ralph
Newman, Park Department Superintendent, requesting that his department
trim the trees on Notre Dame Avenue, both sides of street, from South
Bend Avenue to Angela Avenue.
TheBoard explained to Mr. Newman that this request was not in the nature
of a city wide tree trimming project, but applied to this one location.
FIRE DEPARTMENT: SUSPENSION ( FIREMAN ERNEST R. REED )
Fire Chief McHenry appeared before the Board and informed the Board
that Fireman Ernest R. Reed had been suspended from the Department on
November 24, 1965 for alleged violations of the Rules and Regulations
of the Fire Department.
Chief McHenry requested that the Board set a time for a hearing on the
charges.
After the Board has examined the alleged charges, a hearing date will
be set.
PETITION: STREET LIGHT
A Petition submitted by Mr. Charles Taylor and other residents of the
area requesting the installation of a street light at the corner of
Ottowa Court and Trinity Court was examined by the Board and referred
to the Electrical Department for examination and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT INSTALLATIONS & DENIALS
After due examination by the Engineering Department, the Electrical
Department and the Board, the following disposition was made with
reference to requests for street light installations:
1 - 4000 lumen street light in the 800 block of 25th Street, as
petitioned.
1 - 4000 lumen street light on 33rd Street between Vine and Pleasant,
as petitioned.
2 - 4000 lumen street lights on Linden Avenue_ between Lombardy and
Westwood Lane, as requested by Mr. Herczeg.

l - 4000 lumen street light on Haney between Carroll and Fellows
(Columbia Court), as petitioned.
1 - 4000 lumen street --.light on Holiday Drive between Wilson and Colfax,
as petitioned.
1 - 4000 lumen street light on Ridgewood Circle, west of Ironwood
Drive as requested by Mr. Lloyd Taylor, City Engineer.
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 1142 Helman Drive, as petitioned.
Move 1 4000 lumen street light from Columbia at alley north to
Wenger and Columbia, as requested.
The following requests for lights were held up for further study:
Request for a street light on 26th Street between Jefferson Boulevard
and the railroad tracks as requested by letter.
Request for a street light at 840 Winston Drive.
Request for street light on Woodward Avenue between .Angela and Hudson.
The following request -fora street light was denied:
Request for a street light in the alley in the rear of 520 Cleveland
Avenue, petitioned by resident.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:30 A.M.
