A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
November 15, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. Messrs. Robert J. DuComb and James A„'
Bickel were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read
and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various
suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD ( OPEN BIDS .AND AWARD BIDS )
Comes now Richard Liszewski, Director of Sub -Standard Division of
the Building Department, appeared before the_Board..with sealed bids
for the demolition of the following properties:
Property located at 125-127 N. Hill St., owned by Rego Yusff, represented
by George Stratigos, attorney.
Warner Wrecking Co.
Elkhart, Ind.
Wrecking and claiming salvage, including
water shut-off
Leaving salvage (same as above)
Harvey R. Bryant
23417 Ardmore Trail
South Bend, Ind.
Demolition and removal of salvage
Water shut-off

It appearing that all bids are in order and valid, and it also
appearing that the bid of Warner Wrecking Company is the lowest and
best bid, it is now awarded to Warner Wrecking Company.
Property located at 406-406z-408-4082 E. Wenger Street, owned by
Byron Davidson.

Both bids were in order and valid. It appearing that the bid of ',,arner
Wrecking Company is the lowest and best bid, it is now awarded to
Warner Wrecking Company.
SUB -STANDARD DIVISION: HEARINGS
Mr. Liszewski advised that Bod that Mrs. Bertha Raes, owner of property
located at 820 S. Fellows Street which was to have been demolished by
bid will now be demolished by private contractor.

Mr, Liszewski requested permission to post property located at 414
Pennsylvania Avenue, owned by Mrs. Elizabeth Micek, as sub -standard.
Repair orders have been ignored.
Mr. Francis Sriber, realtor, appeared before the Board to represent
Mrs. Micek who is now in California, He advised the Board that the
present tenants at this address have not been paying rent and there
is now sufficient money to make the necessary repairs.
After hearing Mr. Sriber, the Board requested him to contact the owner
to learn her intentions about bringing the property up to Code. -
With reference to property located at 532-534 N. Hill Street, owned
by Mrs, Joseph Dunfee, Mr. Liszewski advised the Board that this
property has now been purchased by Mr. Dominic Simeri who will
demolish this property by private contractor.
�,. Comes now Miss Pearl Daar, owner of property located at 513-515 E,
Pennsylvania Avenue, to show cause why property has not been brought
GO up to standard,
Mass Daar was not in accord with the provisions of the order to make
the repairs which the Building Department and the Department of Sub -
Standard claim are necessary to meet the Code.
After hearing Miss Daar the Board continued.the hearing for two weeks
in order to make a personal inspection of the houses in question.
A progress report by Mr. Liszewski on property located at 134 N. Olive
Street, owned by Anderson Jones, revealed that the 14 day extension
granted to clean up debris had expired and no clean-up program had been
performed. Mr. Liszewski claimed that more debris had been added
to that already on the premises.
The Board directed Mr. Liszewski to notify the owner that unless he
cleans up this property the City will let bids for demolition.
STREET LIGHT REQUEST
A request for a street light at the property owned by Mrs. Harry Demos,
located at 222 S. Sheridan, was submitted to theBoard and referred to
the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: PARKING ( MISHAWAKA AVENUE )
Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, submitted his recommendation to
prohibit parking on the north side of Mishawaka Avenue from a point
opposite the east right-of-way line of 20th Street at its intersection
with Mishawaka Avenue to the intersection of Greenlawn and Mishawaka
Avenue.
This request is made to expedite the flow of westbound traffic in the
1900 block of Mishawaka Avenue and to provide for orderly two lane
flow of traffic.
This was approved by the Board, subject to the approval of the City
Engineer.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: RECC21,1EENDATION - REMOVAL OF PARKING METERS (FIRST BANK
Mr. Hazinski reported that permits have been granted for curb cuts in
the 200 block of West Jefferson on the south side of the street and
also on the 200 block of South Lafayette Boulevard ,on the east side
of the street. These cuts are for exit and entrance drives to the
First Bank & Trust Company Branch Bank which is under construction.
Permission granted for such removal of meters.

Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file;
SPECIAL POLICE CMUISSIONS ( DREWRY'S
The following Special Police, employed by Drewryts Lts. submitted
Commissions which were approved by the Board, pending receipt of
Special Police Bands: Edmund J. Hosinski, Joseph Torzewski, Bud
Lambick, John M. Csakany and George H. Klowetter
SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION
A Special Police Commission for Thomas L. Harfst, employed by the
Delaney Detective Agency, was approved by the Board, pending receipt
of Special Police Bond.
APPLICATION: FIRE DEPARMNT
An application for the Fire Department from James Lee Austin, Jr,
was accepted and ordered placed on file.
APPLICATION: AUXILIARY SCHOOL PATROL
An application for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol from Barbara
Jane Henderson was accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:20 A.M.
