Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDING DEPARTIVtENT• SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ,( OPEN BIDS_) Richard Liszewski, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department came before the Board with sealed bids for demolition of the following sub_ -standard properties: For property located at 2125 Merry Avenue, owned by Henry and Constance Froning. Warner Wreckinz Company Elkhart, Indiana Wrecking house and claiming salvage $500.00 Claiming no salvage $500.00 Ralph Williams 19947 W. Lynwood South Bend, Ind. Demolition of structure, including water shut-off $346.00 Thomas Palmer 55299 Sundown South Bend, Ind. Demolition of building and retain salvage $410.00 It appearing that the bid of Ralph Williams is the lowest and best bid, it was awarded to Ralph Williams. All bids were in order. For property located at 1213 King Street, ovrned by County Auditor. Warner Wrecking Combanv Elkhart, Indiana Demolition of structure including water shut-off $425.00 Ralph Williams 19947 W. Lynwood South Bend, Ind. Demolition of building including water shut-off $246.00 Thomas Palmer 55299 Sundown South Bend, Ind. Demolition of building including water shut-off $325.00 All bids submitted were in order. However, sire e the bid of Ralph Williams was the lowest and best bid, it was awarded to Ralph Williams. However, since the bid of Ralph Williams was the lowest and best bid, it was awarded to Ralph Williams. 80--.STANDARD DIU'ISION• HEARINGS With reference to property located at 911 High Street, owned by Herman Bauss, Mr. Liszewski reported that the owner was having this demolished by private contractor. This action was approved by the Board. With reference to property located at 626 E. Sample Street, Mr. Liszewski requested permission to post this property as sub -standard. Permission granted. Bt7ILDING DEPARTMENT REPORT A Report from the Building Department for the month of October was accepted and ordered placed on file. APPROVAL: STREET LIGHT INSTALLATIONS ( SAMPLE STREET ) To improve Sample Street from the railroad tracks to Lafayette Boulevard by the installation of street lights, the Board approved the following installations and changes: Install: 9 - 21,000 M.V. Lumen street lights wood pole installation Remove: 3 - existing street lights (2 -4,000 lumen and 1 4r 15,000 lumen street light. The total cost of the new installation is $395.80 per annum. RE: INSTALLATION OF STREET LIGHT ( HEIMAN DRIVE_) An inquiry from Lloyd S. Taylor, City Engineer, regarding a request some time ago regarding the street light installation on Helman Drive between Manchester Drive and Rexford Drive was referred to Eugene Radecki for investigation and report. PETITION: STREET LIGHT ( WOODWARD AVE ) A Petition for the installation of a street light on Woodward Avenue between Angela Avenue and Hudson Street submitted by Eber H. Smith and others was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation. RE: INSTALLATION OF STREET LIGHT ( RIDGEWOOD CIRCLE ) A memorandum from Lloyd S. Taylor, City Engineer, submitted to the Board, requesting the investigation of a possible installation of a street light on Ridgewood Circle west of Ironwood Drive was referred to the Electrical Department for study and report. APPROVAL: STREET LIGHT INSTALLATION (MIAMI_AND WIDENER LANE ) A request from Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director to the City Engineer, requesting that a street light be installed at the intersection of Miami at Widener Lane for use by Jackson High School students during the dark early morning hours; was submitted to the Board, examined and approved. 1 1 STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. APPROVAL: TRAFFIC LIGHT INSTALLATION ( MlQTI AT WIDENER LANE Clem Hazinski, Traffic, Director,. submitted_ a report to the: Board. with reference to the crossing at Miami Street at Widener Lane, Mr. Hazinski reported that pedestrians crossing at this intersection are not visible to motorists driving northerly on Miami because the grade at that location reduces sight distance. To reduce this hazard and provide for alerting the motorist, it was recommended that amber flasher lights be installed overhead and con- trolled by a time switch. Operation of the flashers would occur at predetermined hours of the day and day of the week. In accordance with this report and recommendation, the Board approved such installation. SPECIAL POLICE BOND S. SZMPMK The Board approved a Special Police Bond for Sylvester S. Szmarek, employed by Pinkerton Detective Agency. Special Police Commissinn was approved at, a former meeting. The Bond was ordered placed on file. APPLICATIONS• POLICE AUXILIARY SCHOOL PATROL The following applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol were accepted and ordered placed on file; Beverly Zelda Heater and Mary Jane Friend.
