A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
October 25, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minites
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to -the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION• HEARINGS
1,1r. Richard Liszewski appeared before the Board to advise the Board
that a garage on property located at 2429 Kenwood, owned by Willie J.
Wright should be demolished.
The Board was also advised that Mr. Wright intends to tear dorm the
garage and requested a continuance of two weeks to accomplish this.
Permission granted and case continued for two weeks, with the
stipulation that Mr. Liszewski check the premises and make a progress
report to the Board at the end of the two week period, at which time
the garage should be demolished, as promised.
With reference to property located at 2125 Merry Avenue, owned by
Henry and Constance Froning, Mr. Liszewski advised the Board that
the property is vacant and open.
The owners advised the Board that this property had been sold on land
contract but since payments were not continued, had been returned to
them. They have no funds to make the repairs necessary and want the
structure demolished.
The Board granted permission to advertise for bids for demolition.
The Board also granted permission to Mr. Liszewski to advertise for
bids for demolition for pro' rty located at 1511 Listen Street, owned
by Ivory Kuntz. The building is vacant and open.
Mr. Liszewski reported that Judge Kopec had requested 15 days continuance
with reference to property in an estate of Victor & Bessie DeFrees,
located at 102 N. Adams Street.
Permission granted.
Mr. Liszewski requested permission to advertise for bids for demolition
of property now open and vacant, owned CyElizabeth Kovacs, located
at 1213 King Street.
Permission granted.
Permission was also granted to Mr. Liszewski to advertise for bids for
demolition of property now open and vacant, located at 911 High Street.
With reference to property owned by Dale Cornish, located at 50$z
Blaine Avenue, Mr. Liszewski reported that this structure will be
vacated on this date and requested permission to post property as sub-
standard and stipulate that property must remain vacant until repaired.
Permission granted.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: INSTALLATIONS
The Board approved the following installations of traffic signs:
No Parking in Alley sign across the alley from 911 Marietta, above
N.E. sign.

Do Not Pass signs and posts on Portage Avenue.
2 - 2 Hour Parking Limit signs on east side of Dundee Street.
Stop signs on Elliott at Elwood, N.W. and S.E. corners.
Stop Sign on Bulla at Elmer, S.W. corner. Also a Yield sign on Bulla
at Elmer, N.E. corner.
Stop sign on Calhoun at Elliott, N.E. and S.W. corners.
30 Minute Parking signs and replace 2 Hour w/30.Minute Parking at the
following places:
a. Replace 2 Hour Parking w/ 30 Minute Parking sign at
1145 Mishawaka Avenue
b. Install a 30 Minute Parking sign at 1139 Mishawaka Ave.
c. Install a 30 Minute Parking sign equally spaced between
#1 and #4,(between 1139 and 1145 Mishawaka Avenue).
Install 50 Minute Parking 9 A.M. - 10 P.M.at:
a. 15 Minute Parking next to 1139 Mishawaka Ave.
b. Replace the Parallel Parking Only sign w/15 Minute
Parking sign at 1125 Mishawaka Ave., Sunnymede Cleaners.
c. 15 Minute Parking sign at 1117 Mishawaka Ave.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: ( STOP SIGNS AT EWING & FELLOWS )
Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, submitted a recommendation that
the 4-way stop be removed at Ewing and Fellows Street. This intersection
has been signalized with a semi -actuated system including "walk -wait"
lights which axe pedestrian actuated by push button.
Approval has been granted previously by the Board and Mr. Hazinski
requested that effective operation date be entered in the Record as
October 25, 1965.
The Board approved the request of Mr. Hazinski as submitted.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: ( STOP SIGNS AT WASHINGTON & FALCON )
Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, submitted a report as the result of
studies made at the intersection of Washington and Falcon Street which
indicates that sufficient warrants do not exist for a way stop.
Mr. Hazinski recommended that the stop signs on Wash3.rgton be removed
and Falcon Street posted with "Cross Traffic does not Stop" sign.
The Board approved the recommendation of Nir. Hazinski.
PETITION: STREET LIGHTS ( 26TH STREET )
A Petition from Irs. Erna Asher of 413 S. 26th Street, and others, for
the installation of street lights in the blocks of 26th Street between
East Jefferson and the Grand Trunk Railroad tracks was submitted to
theBoard, examined and referred to the Electrical Department for
investigation and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
SPECIAL POLICE BOND
A renewal of a Special Police Bond for Special Police officer Joseph
L. Schubert was approved and ordered placed on file.
SPECIAL POLICE CCMIISSION
A Special Police Commission for Joseph C. Takach, an employee of the
Electrical Inspeetion Department of the City of South Bend was approved
and ordered placed on file. No Speeial Police Bond is required since
Mr. Takach is alreadya bonded
APPLICATION• FIRE DEPARTMENT
An application for the Fire Department from Stephen Edward Sanders
was accepted and ordered placed on file.
CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE ( OFFICE ENGINEERS )
A Certificate of Insurance from Office Eng_�neers for an overhang on
the entrance facing Lincoln Way East was submitted to the Board,
approved and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:00 A.M.
