HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/04/65 Board of Public Works Minutes (2)4 October 4, 1965 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works 8, Safety was held on Monday, October 4, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers. were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDING DEPARNENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS Comes now Mr. C. O.Summers, owner of property at 119'E. Ohio Street. 11r. Summers advised the Board that he has now sold this property to a Mr. Tm. Collon who intends to demolish the structure himself. .Ir. Richard Liszewski, Director of the Sub -Standard Division was directed by the Board to hold up bids for demolition and to contact the new owner and advise him of the requirements of the Building Department for demolition of property. With reference to property located at 122 S. Laurel Street; Mr. Max Cohen, owner of this property- appeared before the Board to shots cause why he had not demolished the garage on this property as directed. Mr. Cohen advised the Board that he wished to repair the garage and asked for a continuance to allow him to accomplish this repair. After hearing Mr. Cohen, the Board advised him to contact Mr. Liszewski and learn what has to be done to bring this structure up to Code. A continuance of 45 days was granted to accomplish this work. Tor. Liszewski reported to the Board that William and Freda Dugdale, otmers of property located at 744 N. Allen Street had been given an extension of time to make repairs on this property and that said extension had now been terminated and the work had not been d.bne, as ordered. Mr. Liszevrski requested permission to advertise for bids for demolition. Permission granted and Mr. Liszevrrski directed to notify the owners of his intention. I.Ir. Liszevrski reported that a garage on property- located at 820 Oalc Street; ovmed by !vIr. ':,,'alter Lamirand, is sub -standard. This building was ordered demolished but has not been and Mr. Liszevrski -requested permiss'on to advertise for bids for demolition. Permission granted. With reference to property located at 324 S. Taylor Street, owned by Mrs. Lillian Devon Mr. Liszewski reported that Mrs. Devon's s.on had contacted him and advised that his mother was in a nursing home and the property had been turned over to the County to pay for her support. lv`r. Liszewski -requested permission to advertise for bids for demolition. Permission granted, and Tarr. Liszevrski directed to send the appropriate notices to interested parties. Both bids are valid bids. After examination, it appearing that the bid of Iffarner Wrecking Company is the Imifest and best bid, it is so w,Tarded to Warner Wrecking Company. For property- located at 1332z Lincoln Way West, otirned by Milton Katz: A & J Demolition 318 O'Brien St. South Bendy Ind. Retain salvage Water shut-off Stack salvage Warner V recking Company 214 Aspinwald Ellfeelart, Ind. Retain salvage $875.00 25.00 $900.00 $890.00 $650.00 (including water shut-off) Stack salvage $650.00 Dumping fees of $50.00 included. Both bids are valid bids. It appearing that the bid of Warner Wrecking Company is the loruest and best bid, it is so awarded to Warner Wrecking Company. A stipulation is he=eby made that if 111r. Katz, owner of the property; can have property demolished at a lower price than the bid price, he has the privilage of so doing. A 1ARDING BIDS (M.60LITION ) I,Tr. Liszewski advised the Board that; in accordance frith the Board's instructions, the bids for demolition of the following properties which ,were taken under advisement at the meeting of September 27, 1965; had been aiarded: Property located at 625 E. Keasey Street - awarded to Warner ':'!reeking Company. Property located at 1002 E. Sorin Street - awarded to A & J Demolition. BEMMST-- NOIRE D9,VE, FOOTBALL TRAFFIC �CAPTAIN BUSSE EI Comes now Captain Bussert, Police Traffic Department; and requested permission to string a banner across Eddy S(;reet in 1300 Block during the hours of heairy football traffic to and from the Notre Dane Stadium on Notre Dame i4home" football games. The proposed banner would be fastened to a pole which can be installed by the Indiana & Michigan :;electric Company for this purpose and would be approximately 15 feet high, Captain Bussert requested this banner which will have arroz?,rs printed on it to direct vehicular traffic into the proper traffic lanes to12 avoid needless traffic congestion at this point. This would also serve as a safety factor in moving traffic in and out of the Stadium parking lots. After hearing Captain Bussert; the Board approved the request, subject to the consent and cooperation of the Indiana L, IUIJ_chigan Electric Company Smith reference to the pole installation. PAa?LIhIG Id TER REMOVALS L 0. GATES_ Clem Hazinski; Traffic Director, recommended that parking meters Nos. 2 and 4 be removed from the 300 block of South Franklin Street in order to provide for a curb cut approved for L. 0. Gates. Since a previously used driveway will be closed, one of -these meters will be installed at that location. The Board approved the changes recommended. TRAFFIC SIGNS INSTALLATIONS Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, the follo7uing traffic sign installations were approved: 3 No Parking Bus Stop signs on Sheridan Street south of Coquillard Drive. POLICE DEPARUvIENT RETIREMENT ( N. ESAREY ) At the requeot of Officer Norman Esarey of the Police Department, the Board approved his retirement; effective October 1, 1965 folloring 15 days terminal leave. SPECIAL POLICE BONDS Special Police Bonds for the following Special Police officers were approved and ordered placed on file. Commissions for these officers were formerly approved: Robert TM. Smith; George Doy and Ferrel C. Kern, har. Don's Bond is a renewal. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
