A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
September 27, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers..
REQUEST; REMOVAL OF PARKING METER RCdVIY HN&W )
The Board approved a request from Romy Hammes to remove a parking Meter
#121. in order to permit Romy Hammes to use the existing drive located
on their used car lot at Lafayette and LaSalle Streets.
SUB -STANDARD DIVISION • BIDS FOR DEMOLITION
Comes now Richard Liszewski, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of
the Building Department, with the following bids for demolition of
the properties described below:

The bids were taken under advisement for one week. Both bids valid.

The bids were both valid bids.
Bids taken under advisement for one week.
SUB -STANDARD DIVISION• HEARINGS
With reference to property owned by Mr. Joseph Cherbo, located at 802
N. Sherman Avenue, Mr. Liszewski requested permission to advertise
for bids for demolition of this sub -standard structure.
Permission granted.
Comes now Mr. E. Ross, 114,E. Corby Street, and advises the Board that
a vacant lot across the street from his property is a hazard due to
the fact that the basement excavation is open and the condition is
ccsusing the washing out of the alley way and is undermining the side-
walk. He also ad -used the Board that the owner, Mr. Wallace Mitchell,
has been notified of this condition on numerous occasions but has so
far refused to correct the situation.
After hearing Mr. Ross,Board requested Mr. Liszewski to obtain photographs
of the premises for examination.
REQUEST: ERECTION OF PERPETUAL GAS LIGHT ( G. FERN
Mr. George Fern, 12 26-- S. Main Street, owner of the Gaslight Club, appeared
before the Bca rd with a request to erect a pole at the curb line of
126 S. Main Street upon which will be placed perpetual gas lights
to publicize his Club which is in the rear of Business Systems.
A representative of the Northern Indiana Public Service Company also
appeared before the Board to explain the operation of this gas light.
It was learned that the flame burns constantly and, should the pole
be struck by a vehicle and knocked down there was no automatic shut-off
valve to extinguish the flame.
The Fire Chief expressed his disapproval of such an installation from
a safety angle.
The Board requested that PJir. Fern submit a drawing of the proposed
installation and also the consent of Business Systems to place such
a light at the curb line at the site of Busiress.Systems on the public
sidewalk.
The request was taken under advisement pending receipt of the above
documents and further investigation and study.
PETITION: STREET LIGHTS ( HARMUN BUILDERS,, INC. - HIGHLAND ESTATES,,
3RD ADDITION )
A Petition from Hartman Builders, Inc. for street lights in Highland
Estates, 3rd Addition, was submitted to the Board by Mr. William H.
Hartman, Secy. Treasurer, and referred to the Electrical Department
for investigation and recommendation.
Plans for such installations were also filedVri.th the Board.
SPECIAL POLICE CaUISSION ( F _,_KERN )
A Special Police Commission for Ferrell Kern, employed by Feferman
Motors was approved pending receipt of Bond.
SPECIAL POLICE BOND ( RIPPEY
A Special Police Bond for Stephen Rippey was approved and ordered placed
on file. Special Police Commission previously approved.
APPLICATION• POLICE AUXILIARY SCHOOL PATROL
An application for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol from Pairs. Mary
Catherine Miller was accepted and ordered placed on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come b efore the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:10 A.M.
