A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety`'__-was..he.d on Monday,
September 20, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. Messrs. Robert J. DuComb and Lloyd
S. Taylor were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read
and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various
suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION
Comes now Mr. Harry Polis, owner of property located at 810-8102 E.
Colfax Avenue with reference to repair orders isxued by the Sub -Standard
Division to bring this property up to Code.
Mr. Polis explained his difficulty in bringing the property up to
standard due, in part, to the fact that the tenants had not moved out
as ordered and had wrecked the apartment they occupied.
He requested permission to be granted a continuance of 60 days during
which time he will bring property up to minimum Code requirements.
Permission granted.
FJ With reference to property owned by Mr. Katz, located at 13321 - 1334
Lincoln Way West, Mr. Liszewski, Sub. -Standard Director, advised the Board
that Mr. Katz has requested that the structure be ddmolished and he asked
permission to advertise for bids for demolition.
Permission granted.
Mr. Liszewski advised the_Board that Wand J. Snyder, owners of property
located at 1028 N. Hill S reet requested that this structure be demolished
and he asked permission to advertise for bids for demolition.
Permission granted.
Property owned by Mr. C. 0. Summers, located at 119 E. Ohio Street is now
vacant, according to Mr. Liszewski. He requested permission to advertise
for bids for demolition.
TRAFFIC DIRECTOR; REMOVE PARKING METERS ( LEE OPTICIAN INC.)
Mr. Hazinski, Traffic Director, submitted a report to the Board advising
that Lee Optician, Inc., 335 S. Michigan Street, had submitted a request
for a curb cut on the north side of Western Avenue west of Michigan Street
to provide for entrance to an off-street parking facility at the rear of
the above address.
To provide for this entrance, Mr. Hazinski recommended that parking meters
#7 ,and #9 be removed from the north side of the 100 block of Western Avenue.
Following the recommendation of Mr. Hazinski, the request was approved.
TRAFFIC�ENGINEER; TRAFFIC SIGNS ( INSTALLATIONS )
The following traffic sign installations were approved by the Board;
1. "Two Hour Parking 6-6 with arrows" signs in front of 507 Western Ave.
2. "No Parking This Side of Street" and "No Parking" on the south side
of 800 and 900 W. Kerr. (6 signs)
3. "No Parking This Side of Street" signs on the west side of Catalpa. (3 signs)
4. "No Parking This Side of Street signs on south side of 1500 W. Colfax.
(2 signs)
POLICE DEPARTMENT: REPORT - SICK TIME OVER 30 DAYS ( R. URGONSKI)
Police Chief Hampton submitted a report concerning Officer Robert Urgonski
who had back surgery on September 7, 1965 and is still incapacitated.
Since his 30 day sick period has expired, the Chief recommended that an
extension be granted.
The Board approved the extension in accordance with Chief Hampton's
recommendation.
SPECIAL POLICE CGUISSIONS
The following Special Police Commissions were approved, pending receipt
of Bond: Robert M. Smith and Steven Harry Rppey, both employed by the
Six Detective Agency.
SPECIAL POLICE BOND HUNT
A Special Police Bond for Russell L. Hunt was approved and ordered placed
on file. Mr. Hunt's Commissinn was previously approved.
POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT
A Report from the Police Department for the month of August, 1965 was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:00 A.M.
