September 7, 1965
A regular meeting -of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday,
September 7, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. Messrs. Robert J. DuComb and Lloyd S.
Taylor were present. Minutes of`the last regular meeting were read and
approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
INDIANA & MICHIGAN ELECTRIC CQUANY STREET LIGHTING PROPOSAL ( MISHAWAKA
AVENUE GREENLAWN TO IRONWOOD )
The Indiana & Michigan Electric Company having submitted to the Board their
recommendation for the lighting of Mishawaka Avenue from Greenlawn to
Ironwood Drive and the same having been examined by the Board, same is
now approved, in part:
S - 21,000 lumen mercury vapor units on steel poles from Greenlawn
Avenue to 20th Street only, as shown on the schematic design attached.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT: HOUSE MOVES ( OLIVER STREET & DOUGLAS STREET )
Comes now Lewis Mitschelen, mover, and requests permission to move two
houses, as follows:
1. House from temporary location, south of Broadway on west side of Main
Street to 2101 Oliver Street, Lot #1, Rum Village Park.
Mx. John Humphrey, attorney, representing the remonstrators appearing to
remonstrate against said house move was present. Messrs. Shide and Derrickson
are the owners of the house which is described above in the requested move.
Mr. Mitschelen now advises the Board that the petition to obtain a permit
to more the above -described house is now withdrawn by the petitioner.
2. House from temporary location, south of Broadway on west side of
Main Street to 2101 Douglas Street, Lot 31 Southwest Addition. Owner
is Mr. Rodney H. Moyer.
Mr. West, Building Commissioner, appeared before the Board and advised
the Board that the proposed structure is in conformity with the Building
Code. It is not now a single dwelling unit but the owner has advised that
he will make the sufficient alterations to convert to a single unit. The
property will be re -sold.
Mr. Mitschelen advised the Board that Mr. Moyer had advised him that he
intended to spend approximately $4,000 in repairs to the structure.
Mr. John Humphreys, attorney, spoke on behalf of the remonstrators present
and advised the Board that the house was a large house and would detract
from the other dwellings on this street and, further, that there was no
assurance that the dwelling would be repaired and remodeled in a manner
to make it a credit to the neighborhood.
Mr. West submitted signed Notice of Public Hearing and Intent to move this
dwelling to the Board. Said notice was sent to surrounding property owners
as interested parties, accepted and ordered placed on file.
The following remonstrators were heard by the Board: Mes. Frank Goszewski,
Messrs. Thomas Roszewski and David A. Pairitz.
After hearing all who wished to be heard, the Board continued the hearing
until September 13, 1965 and requested that Mr. Rodney Moyer, owner of
the house in quest' -on, be present to present his plans in person and not
through Mr. Mitschelen, mover.
SUB -STANDARD DIVISION
Comes now Richard Liszewski, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of
the Building Department, and requests permission to post property located
at 902 Oak Street as sub -standard. The property is owned by Oddius
Harris.
Permission granted.
REPORT; WEIGHTS & MEASURES
A Report for the month of August, 1965 from the Department of Weights
& Measures was submitted; accepted and ordered placed on file.

A Report from the Building Department for the month of August, 1965 was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
�.,. PETITIONS: STREET LIGHTS
The following requests for street lights were referred to the Electrical
ei0 Department for investigation and recommendation:
C-) 1. Petition for street light on Holiday Drive between Wilson and
Colfax Avenue (2 lights.) Request from residents of area.
2.. Request for increase in size of street lights at intersect__on of
first alley north of Madison and first alley east of Michigan Street.
Request from Harry Fein, Mgr. McDonald Chain in South Bend.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: PARKING (SI STREET ),
Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, -the
Board approved his request to prohibit parking on Ruskin ttreet on the
south side of that street from Oakland to Esther Street.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:25 A.M.
