A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, July
19, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last
regular meeting and the special meeting were read and approved. Vouchers
were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
F C UQF VI0 TIQN 0 , REGULATIMS OF FIRE DEPARMNT
( EDMUND GADACZ )
The Board having heard the evidence and being duly advised in the premises
of violation of Rules and Regulations of the Fire Department at hearing
on July 13: 1965, finds that Private Edmund Gadacz, a member of the ---South
Bend Fire Department, is guilty of the charges contained in the specifica-
tions filed by the Chief of the Fire Department and he is suspended for
one day, effective June 16, 1965.
PENSION: SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT PENSION BOARD., EDMUND GADACZ )
The South Bend Fire Department Pension Board having this date advised the
Board of Public Works & Safety -that Private Edmund Gadacz, a member of
the South Bend Fire Department, having been certified by the Pension
Board and the Chief of the South Bend Fire Department, Cecil McHenry, and
Dr. R. 'N. Spenner, a doctor for said Pension Board, and Dr. Spenner
having certified his findings of a medical examination to said Pension
Board, and the Pension Board thereafter on the 17th day of July, 1965,
having retired the said Edmund Gadacz upon,a monthly pension of $247.86
per month, said Edmund Gadacz is hereby relieved of his duties as a
fireman on the South Bend Fire Department and retired by the Board,
effective July 19, 1965.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT: TEMPMARY HOUSE STORAGE( L. D_.MITSCHELEN )
Permission was granted to the Building Department to store two houses
presently located at the southeast corner of Main Street and Indiana
Avenue at a -site just south of Broadway on the west side of Main Street,
formerly the site of Hartman Coal Company, for thirty days. Both
sites are owned by E. J. Barany. Request for storage made by L. Mitschelen.
This temporary storage is requested because clearance of title on proposed
sites at Arnold and Donald Streets and Bruce and Donald Streets for these
houses is expected as of this date.
A formal request to move to the above sites will be presented to the Board
at a later meeting, probably by July 26, 1965.
SUB -STANDARD DIVISION CWPLAINT
Comes now Grady L. Thompson, 627 Monroe Circle, to complain to the Board
that he did not receive proper notification when his property located at
1609 S. Franklin Street was demolished, and that materials that he wanted
to salvage were removed from the property.
Inasmuch as Mr. Liszewski was not present at the meeting at the time to
explain the situation to the Board, the secretary of the Board was directed
to request that Mr. Liszewski contact Mr. DuComb, Board Chairman, concerning
this property.
TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: INSTALLATIONS - TRAFFIC SIGNS
The following installations, having been made, were reported to the Board.
Recommendation for the installations have been approved formerly by the Board.
3 " Reserve for Drivers Test Mon -Fri 9 A.M.-5 P.M." signs on first 3
meters;at Colfax on 100 N. Main Street, west side.
9 "No Parking This Side of Street" signs & Posts on east side of 700-800
block Arnold Street.
POLICE DEPARTV[ENT• MILITARY LEAVE
Permission was granted to the following Police officers to take military
leave:
- Officer Marvin 0. Martz, from August 15 to August 30 to attend annual
field training at Little Creek, Virginia with the Marine Corps Reserves.
Officer D. Thompson, .August .15 to August 28, to attend summer camp . at
Norfolk, Virginia with the Marine Corps Reserves.
PETITIONS• STREET LIGHTS
The following Petitions for street lights were submitted to the Board and,
referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation:
1. Petition submitted by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Elliott, through Councilman
Geib, for a street light at the alley of the 800 and 900 block of N.
Harrison. Other residents of Harrison signed the Petition.

CT 2. Petition submitted by Councilman Edwin Smith, requesting a street
light on Haney Street between Carroll and Fellows Street,' The Petition was
-signed:".by residents of Haney Street.

STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 11:20 AF.M.
