HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/07/65 Board of Public Works Minutes09 Ll June 7, 1965 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, June 7, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. Messrs.R6bert J.DUComb`, and Lloyd S. Taylor were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS ) A representative of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Depart- ment, Mr. Tony Raess, appeared before the Board in Mr. Liszewskits absence to report that Mr. Porter Beckner, owner of property at 407- 4072 E. Paris Street had been asked to come before the Board to show cause why this house has not been brought up to standard. Mr. Rasee requested a continuance of this hearing for one week. Request granted. Mr. Raess also reported the sale of property located at 406 E. Wenger Street. The new owner-is.._Barion Davidson. Mr. Raess requested a continuance on this hearing to allow the new owner to decide whether he will bring property up to standard. Request granted. REFER TO BUILDING DEPARTMENT: COMPLAINT-( MRS L. HORVATH EMKING LOT) A letter from Mrs. Louis Horvath, 1417 W. Indiana Avenue, to the Board of Public Works & Safety, advising the Board of the dusty and dirty condition of a parking lot of Capital Freight Lines at 1530 S. Walnut Street, was examined by the Board. Mrs. Horvath stated that the owner of this property, W. George Swiatowy, 1701 S. Magnolia Street, has failed to keep this lot oiled and for the past two years the Capital Freight Lines has failed to oil the lot as in the past. The Board requested that this letter be referred to Mr. Forrest West, Building Commission. TRAFFIC DIRECTOR: TRAFFIC SIGNS(HASTI11GS AND 39'I'fSTREET ) Traffic Director, Clem Hazinski, reported that studies have been made at the intersection of 30th and Hastings which is presently controlled by four-way stop signs. The result of these studies indicate that this four-way sign is not now necessary and Mr. Hazinski recommended that the stop signs on 30th Street be removed and adequate warning signs of the change be posted on Hastings as it approaches 30th Street. Following this recommendation, the Board approved the change. TRAFFIC DIRECTOR: INSTALATIONS Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, the Board approved the following installations: 4 - Two Hour Parking signs and Posts on the north side of Western in the 1200 block. PETITION: STREET LIGHT ( ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ) A Petition from Raymomd Richard Rice -and others for the installation of 1 1 10 street light on North Notre Dame Avenue, 900 block, at the intersection of an alley (east) on a street light pole was submitted to the Board, and referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and recommen- dation. ,r. POLICE DEPARTMENT: REQUEST FOR OFFICERS TO ATTEND A .Q RESERVE D%TTY The Board approved the request of the following police officers to be absent from duty in order to attend annual Army Reserve Duty: 1. Officer E. I. Friend - Active Duty at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin from June 26 to July 10, 1965. 2. Officer James E. Robison - Active Duty at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin from June 26 to July 10,-1965. POLICE DEPARTMENT: ATTEND CONFERENCE ( CAPT HARM ) The Board approved a request from Captain Orson E. Harman, to attend the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police Conference at Terre Haute, Indiana from June 13 through June 16, 1965. Attendance will be in the interest of the training program of the South Bend Police Dept. SPECIAL POLICE Mug The Board approved Special Police Bonds for Mary Batchelor and LeRoy H. Batchelor,.employees of the Hum ane Society. Commissions have been approved previously. POLICE DEPARTMENT: APPLICATION An application for the Police Department from Leon Kendall was accepted and ordered placed on file. FIRE DEPARTMENT: APPLICATION An application for the Fire Department from Donald Francis Karczewski was accepted and ordered placed on file. CCNPLUNT: ROCKY'S RESTAURANT - BURNING OF DEBRIS A complaint against Rocky's Restaurant from Mr. and Mrs. Sellers of 815 George Avenue was submitted to the Board. Mr. and Mrs. Sellers addressed a letter to the Board in which they stated that the owner of the restaurant, Mr. R. Papandria, burned trash and debris from the restaurant in a huge tank in back of the restaurant which was a nuisance and which violates a City Ordinance. The containeW is not covered. Mr. DuComb directed that a letter be addressed to Mr. Papandria, asking that he contact Mr. DuComb to discuss this situation. WEIGHTS & MEASURES DEPARTMENT:- ATTEND MEETING Mr. Bert Cichowicz, City Sealer of the Department of Weights & -- Measures, having requested of the Board permission to attend the 50th Annual Conference of Weights & Measures conducted by the Bureau of Standards, in Washington, D.C. from June 21 to June 25, 1965 said permission is hereby granted.
