A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, Mj
10, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last
regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and
ordered paid to the various suppliers.
OPEN BIDS• POLICE DEPARTMENT WALK-IN TYPE VAN TRUCE
The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and sealed bids
for one Walk=in Type Van Truck for the Police Department were opened
and read aloud. Proofs of Publication were read and found sufficient.

It appearing that the bid of Gates Chevrolet Corp. is the lowest and
best bid, it is now so awarded, with the provision that the bid will
meet specifications.

POLICE DEPARMENT• PRMIOTION E GERSCHOFFER
Police Chief Irvin C. Hampton, having this date recommended the promotion
of Officer Ervin Gerschoffer to the rank of Detective Sergeant, the
Board of Public Safety being advised on the premises now promotes
Officer Gerschoffer to the rank of Detective Sergeant, effective May
16, 1965.
BUILDING DEPAMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION HEARINGS
Comes now Richard Liszewski, Diredtor of the Sub -Standard Division of
the Building Department and requests permission to post the property
at 126 N. Hill Street for demolition. The building is now vacant
and is a sub -standard building.
Ir ._Jack kunfee, attorney representing t_ne Estate for this address,
which is a Welfare Estate appeared before the Board and advised the
Board that he has been trying to sell this property -and requested
a continuance in order to effect the sale.
After hearing I-dr. Dunfee, the Board -ruled that a continuance of 30 days
be granted. If, at the end of this 30 day period the property has not
been sold the City will demolish the structure.
With reference to property located at 225 S. Wabash, owned by Millis
Devine, Mr. Liszewski requested permission to advertise for bids for
demolition.
Request granted.
Tour. Liszeiiiski reported that property owned by Mrs. Lottie King, located
at 234 E. SaiTle Street :ras sub -standard and that TJ,rs . King had contracted
to have the house demolished. However, she had failed to cooperate with
the contractor who had not been able to accomplish the demolition. The
contract expired on Tvlay 5, 1965.
Under the circumstances, bb?. Liszewski requested permission to have
the building demolished by the City.
Permission granted and TvTr. Liszewski requested to advertise for bids
for demolition.
With reference to property located at 712 E. South Street, Tvir. Liszewski
reported that this is a sub -standard dwelling, that it is now vacant and
boarded up. It is oyTned by residents in Florida, Mr. Don Harbough.
J&% Liszewski requested permission to advertise for bids for demolition.
Upon the request of M-1r. Liszewski, the Board granted a 30 day continuance
for ,property located at 301 E. Keasey Street.
FIRE_ DEPAREv",ENT DISABILITY PENSION ( J. CMINGHAII )__
Upon the recommendation of the Fire Chief, based on reports from the
Pension Board and statements of physicians, the Board approved a h1edical
Pension for Fireman John Edgard Cunningham who is incapacitated and
unable to perform his duties as a fireman.
The Pension will be effective as of May 1, 1965.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTI;NT ( REQUESTS FOR LIGHTS )
The follotring requests for street lights were referred to the Electrical
Department for investigation and recommendation:

1. Petition for a street light on Huntly Court at 4805-4811, in
Scottsdale. Petition submitted by Assistant Chief McNa-ughton and other
,residents of Huntly Court.
2. A request from Raymond I� Ters of the Student Affairs Commission at
the University oi' Notre Dame for better lighting in front of Frankie's
Restaurant on the corner of Notre Dame Avenue and Howard Street.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: INSTALLATIONS
Following the recommendation of the Traffic Director,
Clem Hazinski and
the City Engineer, the following installations and changes in traffic
signs were approved:
1. Parking prohibited on the east side of High Street between Broadway
and Indiana.
2. Parking prohibited on baths ides of Ireland Road between Michigan and
Miami in the sections within the city limits.
3. Foux-viiay stop signs on Franklin and Garst be eliminated since this
area no longer services the Studebaker traffic and present conditions
do not v-arrant, these stop signs.
BUILDING DEE&aQV1ENT REPORT
A Report for the month of April, 1965 from the Building Department was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board., the meeting
was adjourned at 12:20 P.M.
