May 3, 1965
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety T;,Ms held on Monday,
May 3, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members here present. Minutes of the last
regular meeting were read,and approved. Vouchers were approved and
ordered paid to the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPAR'EvIENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( 11EARI=
Comes now Richard Liszewski, Director of the Sub -Standard Division
and advised the Board that property in the Ida Taliaffarro Bruim-el
Estate, handled by Hollis and Susan Hughes, located at 1513-1515 Liston
Street was sub -standard. This Property is the Liston Hotel.
lix. Lis zewski advised the Board that the part of the property immnn as
1513 will be demolished and the part knom as 1515 Toiill be remodeled by
Hollis and Susan Hughes.
These arrangements were approved by the Board.
1,1r. Liszewski submitted a progress report with reference to property
ov-med by Rev. Tate and located at 917 Carroll Street Y-ehich is sub-
standard and which has not been demolished, as ordered.
1,4r. Liszewski requested permission to proceed with demoliti6n...orders.
.Permission granted.
!`!ith reference to property oimed by Elvin and Juanita Mason, located
at 521 E. Ohio Street., TvLr. Liszewski reported that repairs had been
ordered and were to have been completed by April 19, 1965. These
repairs have not been made and he requested permission to post building
as sub -standard.
Permission granted.
REPORT; TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( PARKING IN 1200 BLOCK IYESTERNAVEI=
1,1r. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Director, submitted a report and his
recommendation on a Petitii6n filed with the Board of Public Works
Safety requesting installation of a 2 hour zone to limit parking from
1201 to 1229 ';,Iestern Avenue which was referred to L'Ir. Hazinski.
After checking this location., 11r. Hazinski reported that the installation
of such a zone would create a turn -over of parking space in this area and
tend to eliminate illegal bus zone occupancy. It was his recommendation
that the Petition be granted.
Following this recommendation, the Board granted the installation.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: ATTEND MKING (-COTRITING STATIOIJS )
TV1'r. - Clem Hazinski submitted a request to Mr. Lloyd S. Taylor, City
Engineer, to attend a meeting of City Traffic Engineers called by the
State Highway Commission -vAth reference to methods of maintaining counting
stations. The meeting was scheduled by 10:30 A.IVI. TvTiay 3, 1965.
Folloyring the recorimendatian of 1JEr. Taylor, the Board granted the request.
FIRE DEP-POE.,ENT; ATTEND TOEETINGS )
Follovring the recommendation of Fire Chief McHenry, the Board approved
the request for the following members of the Fire Department to attend
the meetings listed below:
May 10, 11; 121, 1965 - Inspector's Course., Purdue University, Bloomington.
Battalion Chief William Diedrich, Captain Tom, Latimer, Lieutenant Anthony
Romeo and Captain Jack Bukawski.
lky 12, 13, 14, 15, 1965 - Fourth Advanced Course in Emergency Aid and
Transportation., Ch 4 'cago, Illinois. George Krovitch.

Lieutenant 'William Schmidt.
RE2:IR7H2/1ENT: POLICE DEPARIIENT ( POPE )
Police Officer Albert Pope, having this date tendered his resignation to
the Board of Public Safety as a police officer effective June 9, 1965,
same is hereby accepted effective.June 9, 1965.
PRW1OTIQK; POLICE DEPARMTENT ( MCDONALD )
Chief Irvin Hampton of the Police De artment, having- this date recommended
to the Board of Public Safety the promotion of Officer Kenneth 1,10onald
to the rank of Uniform Sergeant, same is hereby approved effective
1,lay 1, 1965.
PQL_ICE DEPARTIMT: REPORT OF SICK TR.2 OVER THIRTY DAYS ( R. SEALS )
Chief Irvin Hampton of the Police Department, submitted a Report of Sick
Time over Thirty Days for Officer Robert Seals who :is recovering from
a heart attack.
Chief Hampton recommended that the additional time be allowed and the
Board approved the recommendation.
APPLICATION; POLICE AUXILIARY SCHML PATROL
An application from Eva }sae Romig for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol
was accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There -being no further business to come before -the -Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:20 A.M.
