March 8, 1965
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
March 8, 1965 at 10:00 A.14. All members were present. Minutes of the
last regular meeting and the special meeting were read and approved.
Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
RUIMING BID: FIRE DEPARrEvENT ( STATION WAGON - AQULET ) -CONTRACT NO. 7-6�
After investigation and tabulation of the bids -'for the Fire Department
station viagon to be converted to an ambulet, the follovringx bid was
considered the lowest and best bid and is now awarded:

South Bend, Indiana
1 - 1965 Ford Wagon with conversion by National Coaches as per
specifications, delivered to South Bend less trade-in and taxes
Total price with options installed $4,996.77
FIRE, DEPARTTvIENT: DISABILITY PENSION_ JO R WHIERING )
It was the unanimous decision of the Board of Trustees of the Firemen's
Pension Fund in regular session to approve the disability per -Sion of
Fireman John R. Wilmer-Lng in the amount of 55% of a fully paid first
class fireman's salary, effective February 16, 1965 and said fireman
is hereby granted said pension by the Board of Public Safety and
ordered removed from the active list of the Fire Department.
FIRE DEPARTIENT: RETIRMENT ( 'WILLIAM P. DOVINE )
The Board of Trustees of the Firemen's Pension Fund having approved the
application of Fireman William Patrick Dovrnes for retirement from the
Fire Department, effective March 18, 1965 with a monthly service
pension of 550 of a fully paid first class fireman's salary, said
action of the Pension Board of Trustees is nmv approved by the Board
of Public Safety and Firema
n Dovrnes' name is hereby ordered removed
from the active list of the Fire Department.
FIRE DEPARDENT: EXPIRATION OF PROBATION PERIOD ( J. R. RITTER

Randall Ritter has satisfactorily completed his 6 month probation
period, said -fireman is hereby removed from the probation status and

Follm,iing the recommendation of Fire Chief TvIcHenry, Battalion Chief
Lo,,°!ell Badman, Battalion Chief Dale Fortin and Lieutenant Daniel
Cunningham were granted permission to attend the Instructor's Conference
in hSamphis, Tennessee on 1.1arch 23, 24, 25, 26, 1965.
FIRE DEPAMIENT., AML-U REPORT
The Annual Repbrt for the year of 1964 from the Fire Department was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
REQUERST; BELLEVILLE BABE RUTH IQUUE, INC. USE OF FIRE STATION
A request from the Belleville Babe Ruth League to use Fire Station No.
12 at Vleste2.--n Avenue and Gladstone Street from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
on Saturday, April 3 and Sunday, April 4, 196151 for the purpose of
registering ball players for the coming baseball season was approved.

Following Petitions for street light installations received:

The above requests were referred to the Electrical Department for
investigation and recommendation.
RE VEST: STREET LIG_-HT
A request for a street light on Sample Street between Franklin and
Chapin Streets was received from an individual who signed himself "Taxpayer".
The request was referred to the Electrical Department for investiga-
tion and recommendation.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: INSTALLATIONS
Following the -recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following
installations were approved:
Install 2 - 2 Hour Parking limit signs and posts at 320 W.
Madison Street.
BUILDING DEPARMIENT• HOUSE IAOVE
Comes now Forrest R. West, Building Commissioner, and requests permission
to move a house from 817 29th Street to SOS 24th Street. Don Lovelace
is the oiYner and Lewis Mitschelen is the mover.
Mr. z-rest advised the Board that persons effected by said house move have
been notified and names and addresses of those notified vrere included
in the written request for the '_House move.
The Bldg. Commissioner recommended approval of the proposed move, since
there were no remonstrances received or no remonstrators appeared, provided
all ordinances are complied with.
Tolloiring the recommendation of the Building Commissioner -the --Board
approved the house move, as recommended by the Building Commissioner.
SUB=STANDARD DIVISION ( COND.EWATION ;
Comes now Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standard Division Supervisor, and
requests permission to post notice of condemnation on property located
at II6-1161 Ohio Street, o,,,ned by airs. Elsie B. Henning.
i'r. Liszeviski advised the Board that this house was not fit for occupancy
and no effort had been made to brim the property up to standard.

Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARDAENT: APPLICATIONS
The following applications for the Police Department were accepted and
ordered placed on file: Douglas Macarthur Johnson, Joseph Harold Butcher,
and John Richard Woods.

Permission was granted to Richard J. Duck, Clerk of the Board to place
advertisements in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News for'
Uniforms and Uniform Equipment for the South Bend Fire and Police
Departments. Sealed bids will be opened on March 22, 1965.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:45 A.M.
