HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/01/65 Board of Public Works Minutesz March 1, 1965 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, 11arch 1, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. No vouchers were approved for payment. AWARDING BID: FIRE DEEAQ_ENT SEDANS. 1 TRUCK CONTRACT NO. 7-65 After due deliberation, tabulation and consideration of the bids received for the vehicles for the Fire Department, it was the decision of the Board that the following vendor had submitted the best bid for the. City of South Bend and that it met the specifications as set forth by the City of South Bend. It is therefore awarded as follows: Romr Hammes CorD. South Bend, Indiana GO 2 Cust. 500 4-Door 1965 Fords, middle line as per specifications, delivered in South Bend less trade-in and taxes. Total price with options installed $5,584.74 1 2 Ton Ford F 100 Pick-up Truck as per specifications. Total price with trade in and taxes, deli,,,,ered South Bend $1,518.00 1 1965,Ford 2-Door Custom as per specifications, delivered to South Bend, less trade in and taxes Total price with options installed $i;625.12 REPORT: TRAFFIC ENGINEER I WALK -WAIT SIGNALS, Sfilva)LE & CHAPIE STREETS Following a request by Dr. Alex Jardine of the South Bend Community School Corporation fortiralk-wait signals at intersection of Chapin and Sample Streets, referred to the Traffic ET ineer for investigation and recommen- dation, Iv1r. Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, submitted his report together with a letter from Indiana State Highway Commission in which the request for such an installation was denied. Following this recommendation, the Board denied this request for walk wait signals at Chapin and Sample Streets. However, in accordance with the recommendation of the State Highway Commission,, of having the crossing for school children at Chapin or Prairie Avenue south of the proposed intersection and use Garst- Street which is narrower and would permit a shorter crossing period, the Board referred this alternate proposal to the Traffic Engineer for his investigation and recommendation. The secretary of the Board was directed to forward a copy of the letter from the State Highway Commission, together with the Board's ruling, to Dr Jardine. TRAFFIC ENGINEER - PARKING SIGN INSTALLATIONS Following the recommendatfon, of the Traffic Engineer, the following installations nstallations were approved: No Parking, wlArrows on west side of 1200 High Street. Remove No Parking This Side signs in north half block and relocate other signs so there are 5 signs & posts. Install reflective 123:18 No Parking signs at 501 S. Eddy, (Bus Stop) and 505 S. Eddy. Yield signs & posts alu-northeast corner of Ironwood & Springbrook. M Stop signs & posts at northeast corner of ByTon & Springbrook. LETTER OF CCUIPL=NT: FURE DEPARDME A letter from 1. C. C. Armstrong of Walker's Shoe Store was submitted to the Board. Mir. Axnustro--rig complimented the Fire Department for their efficiency at the time of a fire in -the. Palais'Royal - building', adjacent to the Shoe store. Th-e letter was accepted and ordered placed on file. STREET LIGHT OUTA-REPORTS Street Light Outage Reports ivere accepted and ordered placed on file. HEARING POSTPONEONT: OFFICER NAIVROCKI A hearing on charges preferred against Officer Edward J,.. Navvrocki schedulei for 2:00 P.M. this date has been continued to Tuesday, March 2, 1965 at 10:00 A.M. at the request of defense attorneys.
