Martin, Clerk Board of Public Works FROM: Richard Estes, Engineer I SUBJECT: The JMS Building New North Stair Tower Time Extension Project No. 116-098 DATE: December 13, 2016 Here is an explanation for the Change Order being submitted. The reason(s) for the Change Order request is as follows: After the bid had been awarded, the steel fabricator informed HGR Group that the materials that were supposed to be ready for them to use on December 61h have been delayed to being completed on December 13th. The contractor is also claiming that due to the time between opening and awarding the contract as well as the time taken to set up the pre -construction conference they have lost 8 working days. HGR Group Inc. is requesting a total time extension of 14 calendar days be added to the contract due to delays caused by the aforementioned delays. A copy of the HGR Group letter requesting additional time is attached. The initially defined intermediate completion date was set at December 23, 2016. This extension would set the intermediate completion date at January 6, 2017. The reasoning behind the initially defined intermediate completion date was to ensure that the occupancy permit was obtained for the site owner. Since the award of this bid, the site owner has explained that the occupancy permit deadline can be extended to accommodate the proposed schedule by the contractor. Their written approval of the extension can be found attached to this change order. Please call me with your questions (5896). PROJECT: The JMS Building New North Stair Tower SUBJECT: Change Order Number 1, Explanation of Time ISSUE DATE: December 13, 2016 This Change Order to the Contract document shall supplement, amend, and shall become a part of, and be incorporated as an Addendum to the Contract. PROSECUTION AND PROGRESS Revise the following: Intermediate completion date of DeeemleeF 23, 2016 January 6, 2017 for obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy to utilize the Stair from the Authority Having Jurisdiction. END CHANGE ORDER 1 SHEET 1 OF 1 Construction Services 11-21-16 Re: Finish date extension Mr. Estes, We are requesting an extension of the completion date, for the Stair Tower project, at the JMS Building. We request it be extended from December 23rd 2016 to January 6th 2017. The steel fabricator has indicated to us, that they can not have the steel stairs to us by the original scheduled install date of December 6th. They believe they can have it onsite on December 13th. We will lose 6 working days (Saturday included) Another reason is that we lost some time between the board approval and the pre- constrcution meeting. Since we were not allowed to start until we had our pre -con meeting, it cost us 8 working days. (Saturday's included) We will lose a total of 14 working days (Saturdays included), before the steel stairs even arrive onsite. We are working 10 hour days 6 days a week to meet the schedule. But, believe we will fall short on meeting the December 23rd completion day, due to the reason mentioned above.
