Special Meeting - June 30, 1969
A special meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 4:30
P.M., on June 30, 1969, with all members present.
Also present were Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat and Fireman John J. Gadacz.
Mr. Taylor stated the purpose of the meeting was to take up the matter of
Fireman John 3, Gadacz, charged with violation of Requlation Article XIV,
Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the General Rules and Regulations of the South Bend
Fire Department.
Upon interrogation, FIteman Gadacz stated he had read and understood the
charges; that he did not wish to be represented by counsel; and that he
wished to plead 'guilty" to the charges.
It was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the matter be taken under
advisement.
Thereupon, Fireman Gadacz left the meeting.
Following a discussion of the Board members and Fire Chief Zurat, it was
moved, seconded and unanimously carried that Fireman John J. Gadacz be sus-
pended from duty, without pay, for a period of 60 days commencing with the
20th day of June, 1969, and that following this 60 day period he not be
restored to duty unless and until he establishes, to the satisfaction of
Chief Zurat, that he is then physically and mentally in condition to carry
out the duties of a fireman.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned
at 4:45 P.M.
