HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/10/70 Board of Public Works MinutesAugust 10, 1970 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M., on August 10, 1970, with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved, WEIGHTS AND MEASURES DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR JULY The report of the Weight s and Measures Department for July, 1970, was reviewed and ordered filed. CONTRACT AWARDED - POTAWATOMI PARK DISPLAY BARN The matter of awarding contract for the construction of the display barn for Potawatomi Park Zoo having been resolved, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, contract for such construction was awarded to Muia Construct- ion Company, Inc., 1818 S. Main Street, South Bend, Indiana, upon its bid of $45,541.00 less Alternate #5 of $2,906.00, Alternate #6 of $1,535.00 and less electrical of $1,538.00--a total of $39,542.00. REQUEST TO BID FOR ROCK SALT - PURCHASING DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of the Purchasing Department to advertise for bids for rock salt for the 1970-1971 winter season. August 24, 1970, was the date set for receiving bids, and t he Clerk was directed to give notice by publication in the Sou th Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on August 14 and August Z1, 1970. IN -KIND RENT VOUCHERS - A.C.T.I.O.N., INC. In -kind rent vouchers from A.C.T.I.O.N., Inc., for the month of August, 1970 for Fire Station #5 in the amount of $169.62 and for Fire Station #7 in the amount of $200.00 were ordered filed. PETITION TO VACATE PORTIONS OF STREETS AND ALLEYS - DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT- INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION PROJECT, INDIANA R-56 The Department of Redevelopment, 1200 County City Building, South Bend, Indiana, files with the Board its petition to vacate portions of streets and alleys in the Industrial Expansion Project, Indiana R-56, all within the recorded plat of Raff's First Addition, Raff's Second Addition and Lewis' First Addition, Subdivisions in the northeast Quarter of Section 14, Township 37 north, Range 2 east as follows: (1) Leon Court, an east -west Street from the east line of Kemble Avenue to the west line of Kendall Street (38,096 sq. ft.); (2) Catalpa Avenue, a north -south Street from the'south line of Cotter Street to the north line of Leon Court (9,960 sq. ft.); (3) Catalpa Avenue, a north -south Street from the south line of Leon Court south 225 feet (9,000 sq. ft.); (4) Chapin Street, a north -south Street from the south line of Cotter Street to the north line of Leon Court (9,960 sq. ft.); (5) Chapin Street, a north -south Street from the south line of Leon Court south 225 feet,(9,000 sq. ft.); (6) The north -south alley between Prairie Avenue and Catalpa Avenue from the south line of Cotter Street to the north line of Leon Court (3,486 sq. ft.); (7) The north -south alley between Catalpa Avenue and Chapin Street from the south line of Cotter Street to the north line of Leon Court (3,486 sq. ft.); (8) The north -south alley between Catalpa Avenue and Chapin Street from the south line of Leon Court south 225 feet (3,150 sq. ft.); (9) The north -south alley between Chapin Street and Kendall Street from the south line of Cotter Street to the north line of Leon Court (3,486 Sq. ft.); and 8/10/70 1 00 t- fl (10) The north -south alley between Chapin Street and Kendall Street from the south line of Leon Court south 225 feet (3,150 sq. ft.). Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the petition was referred, simultaneously, to the City Engineer for map of the area locating utilities and to the Area Plan Commission for study and recommendation to the Board. XX XX REQUEST TO DEMOLISH OLD CITY HALL - DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Department of Re- development was authorized to demolish the old City Hall building at 214 N. Main Street. COMPLAINT - RE CONDITION OF PROPERTY AT CORNER OF GREENLAWN AND SUNNYMEADE Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, complaint of neighbors in reference to the condition of a house recently moved to the corner of Greenlawn and Sunnymeade was referred to the Building Department for in- vestigation and report. COMPLAINT - RE CONDITION OF PROPERTY AT 401 E. DUBAIL - RAYMOND ACRES AND OTHERS Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried the complaint of Raymond Acres and 47 other residents of the area in reference to the unsanitary and unsafe condition of the premises at 401 E. Dubail Street was referred to the Building Department for appropriate action. CONTRACTORS' BONDS APPROVED Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the following contractors' bonds were approved and ordered filed: Billy H. Lancaster, d/b/a B. H. Lancaster, Concrete Contractor - to 8/9/71 Leon H. Martin - to 8/9/71 CONTRACTOR'S BOND NOT APPROVED - S. E. PRICE Contractor's bond of the Western Surety Company, submitted by S. E. Price was rejected; and the Clerk was directed to return the bond for a proper power of attorney authorizing Lee Hostetler to sign the bond as attorney in fact for the Western Surety Company. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street light outage reports for the period 7/27/70 to 8/6/70 were ordered filed.
