BUILDING DEPARTMENT - USE OF HELICOPTER LIFTS
The following letter was presented:
February 8, 1972
Board of Public Works and Safety
County City Building
South Bend, Indiana
Attention: Mr. W. J. Richardson, City Engineer
RE: Helicopter lifts at the American National Bank Building and the
Sherland Building, Sunday February 13, 1972.
Gentlemen:
We propose to lift by helicopter five (5) pieces of heating and air
conditioning equipment on the roof of the American National Bank
Building from their lot just west of and adjacent to the Building.
This would be done by Midwest Helicopter Airways, Inc. who are
insured up to $1,000,000.00 of public liability and property damage
and they will act as our sub under contract with, us.
We would like to remove a burned out electric motor from the roof of
the Sherland Building and replace it with a new one just after the
setting of the units on the bank building, and this operation would require
the closing of Jefferson Street at Michigan, Wayne Street at Michigan
and Jefferson Street at Lincolnway East.
This whole operation would begin at 8:00 A.M. and would be completed
well before noon. Jefferson and Wayne Streets would not have to be
closed until 9:30 A.,.
Moping this meets with your approval and if so, we will make necessary
arrangements with the City Police to control traffic and pedestrians
at the site.

Very truly yours,
0. J. SHOEMAKER
