REGULAR MEETING
DECEMBER 31, 1973
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works convened at 9:30 a.m. on Monday,
December 31, 1973 with Mr. Farrand and Mr. Seitz present. Minutes of the
previous meeting were reviewed and approved.
AWARDING OF BID - BUREAU OF STREETS TRUCK
The Board received a recommendation from Donald Decker, Street Commissioner,
that the bid of Gates Chevrolet Company for $2854 for a One Ton Truck be accepted.
Mr. Decker indicated that their bid was $54 higher than the bid from International
Harvester, but from the standpoint of service and the earlier delivery date,
he felt the bid should be awarded to Gates Chevrolet. Upon motion made, seconded
and carried, the Board accepted the recommendation and awarded the bid to the
Gates Chevrolet Company on their bid of $2854.00.
AWARDING OF BID - BUREAU OF STREETS TRACTOR
The Board received a recommendation from Donald Decker, Street Commissioner,
that the bid of Southlawn Ford Tractor for a tractor with a diesel engine at a
price of $7100.00 be accepted. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the
Board accepted the recommendation and awarded the bid to the Southlawn Ford
Tractor and Equipment Company on their low bid of $7100.00.
AWARDING OF BID - BUREAU OF STREETS MOWER
Donald Decker, Street Commissioner, recommended to the Board that the bid of
Deeds Equipment Company for a rotary mower be accepted. Upon motion made,
seconded and carried, the Board awarded the bid to the Deeds Equipment Company
on their low bid of $4705.00.
REQUEST TO ATTEND BOCA CONFERENCE
The Board received a request from Forrest R. West, Building Commissioner, that
he be allowed to attend a BOCA Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on
January 3 and 4, 1974. There will be no cost to the City. Upon motion made,
seconded and carried, the Board approved the request.
CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE FILED
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted and filed a
Certificate of Insurance from 0. J. Shoemaker, Inc. for the Board of Sewage
Treatment Plant Commissioners.
TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES APPROVED
The following recommendations for traffic control devices were received from
the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting:
A. 25 M.P.H. Speed Limit on St. Joseph Street from Monroe to LaSalle.
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the installation was approved.
B. Installation of Stop Sign on Greenlawn at Bader. Upon motion made,
seconded and carried, the installation was approved.
CONTRACTOR'S AND EXCAVATION BONDS APPROVED
The Board received a recommendation from Ray S. Andrysiak, Bureau of Engineering,
that Continuation Certificates for the following bonds were in proper order and
could be approved:

Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bonds were approved to the dates
listed above.

APPROVAL OF NEW YEAR'S DAY AS A HOLIDAY FOR CITY EMPLOYEES
Mr. Farrand noted that the 1974 Holiday Schedule will not be adopted until the
full Board and the Attorney are present. Upon motion made, seconded and
carried, the Board approved January 1, 1974, New Year's Day, as a paid holiday
for City employees.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT
The Street Light Outage report for the period of December 18 to December 24
was received and ordered filed.
,ASSESSMENT ROLL - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3373, 1973, KENSINGTON FARM SEWERS
Mr. David Wells, Manager, Bureau of Design and Administration, informed the
Board that the Assessment Roll for the Kensington Farms Sewers, authorized
under Improvement Resolution No. 3373, 1973 is in the final stages and will be
filed with the Board this week. He requested that the Board approve-' advertising
for the public hearing on the Assessment Roll. Upon motion made, seconded and
carried, the Board authorized the Clerk to advertise on January 4 and 11, 1974,
with the public hearing to be held on January 14, 1974 at 9:30 a.m. at the
regular meeting of the Board of Public Works.
There being no further business to come before the Board, upon motion made,
t.� seconded and carried, the meeting adjourned at 9:50 a.m.
