January 29, 1973 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 a.m. <br />on Monday, January 29, 1973 with Mr. Sweeney and Mr. Barcome in attendance. Mr. <br />Richardson was out of the city. Minutes of the last meeting were reviewed and <br />approved. Mr. Sweeney announced that present today were Mr. James Seitz, who will <br />be a member of the Board of Public Works beginning next Monday and Mr. Pat Gallagher, <br />Director of the Bureau of Safety and Dr. John Kromkowski, Director of Human Resources, <br />who will serve on the Board of Public Safety. Mr. Barcome, on behalf of himself and <br />Mr. Richardson, expressed their thanks and appreciation to Mr. Sweeney, who will be, <br />leaving the Board of Works after this meeting. Miss Virginia Guthrie, Executive <br />Secretary of the Civic Planning Association, also expressed her thanks to Mr. <br />Sweeney and the Board for their courtesy and cooperation. <br />BIDS OPENED ON MAIN STREET SEWER PROJECT CS-3-1972 <br />Bids for the Main Street Storm Sewer Project No. CS-3-1972 were openedand <br />publicly read, the Clerk having tendered proofs of publication of notice in the <br />South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. <br />Howell Construction Company <br />Bid - $27,250 <br />Alternate l-A $3200.00 <br />Alternate 1-B $ 400.00 <br />Alternate 1-C $1560.00 <br />Alternate 1-D $1620.00 <br />Arco Engineering Construction Co. <br />Bid - $35,551.55 <br />Alternate 1-A $5280.00 <br />Alternate t-B $ 300.00 <br />Alternate 1-C $3000.00 <br />Alternate 1-D $3400.00 <br />H. Ed Szymkowiak <br />Honorable Board Members: <br />Fire Fighter Ed Szymkowiak has worked in the South Bend Fire Department Fire <br />Fire Prevention Bureau for several months and has proven to be a very capable <br />and efficient Fire Inspector.
