Bill No. 39 -16- 214 Olive Street Special Exception
Vice Chairperson John Voorde called the meeting to order at 3:31 p.m., with one item on the
agenda.
Bill No. 39 -16- 214 Olive Street Special Exception
Chuck Bulot, Building Commissioner with offices at 125 S. Lafayette Boulevard, South Bend,
this petition for a special exception for a fire station in an SF two (2) zoning district was heard by
the Board of Zoning Appeals on August Third (3`d) and comes to Council with a favorable
recommendation.
Committee Chair Oliver Davis arrived, giving the committee a quorum.
Mike Danch, from Danch Hamer and Associates, 1643 Commerce Drive, represented the City.
The City is asking to tear down the existing Fire Station Number Four (4) and replace it with a
new one on Orange and Olive. We have to come to the Council to ask for a special exception
because it is zoned SF Two (2). They are going to tear the existing building down, and the new
building will go up a little farther to the north west of the site. The existing station has to remain
functioning until the very last minute, so we have to be able to build the new building before we
can tear down the old building. Everything was approved at the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Maybe one (1) person showed up and asked about the sidewalk. We are actually going to rip
those up and move them back which will also allow for a tree lawn so there will be a green space
between the curb line and the sidewalk.
