Bill No. 16 -57 — Reasonable Transition to Clean Energy
Committee Chair Dr. David Varner called the Utilities Committee meeting to order with one (1)
bill on the agenda. Due to a lack of quorum, the Committee could make no official
recommendations.
Committeemember Oliver Davis announced that Bill 16 -57 will be continued. There was a
Utilities meeting two (2) weeks ago and there was good conversation and quality comments that
will be taken into consideration. Representatives from both I &M and the Sierra Club were able
to speak and give their views.
Committee Chair Dr. Varner recommended that all the Councilmembers read over the minutes of
that meeting before this comes back to the Council. There are two (2) widely different
perspectives and hopefully that gives some background and insight into the issue. He suggested
the resolution that the Council ends up crafting needs to be supportive of the best parts of both
rather than completely objective to only one (1) side.
Committeemember Davis stated his personal goal was to have everything ready for August 22nd
2016 and then file a substitute.
With no further business before the Committee, Committee Chair Dr. David Varner adjourned
the meeting at 4:55 p.m.
