SEPTEMBER 28. 2009
David Varner, Chairperson, Public Works and Property Vacation Committee called the meeting to
order at 3:35 p.m.
Committee Members Present: Tom LaFountain, Timothy Rouse, Henry Davis, Jerry Niezgodski,
Citizen Member
Other Councilmember's Present: Karen L. White, Ann Puzzello
Other's Present: Mayor Steve Luecke, Carl Littrell, Martha Lewis, Rita Kopala, Matt Seese,
Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, John Voorde
Agenda: Bill No. 75-09 -Appropriation Local Road & Street Fund & Motor Vehicle Highway Fund
With all Committee Members present, Chairperson Varner called upon Gary Gilot to present Bill
No. 75-09. Gary explained the appropriation of $1,265,000 from the Local Road & Street Fund
was to be used to leverage nearly $7 million dollars in projects. The Miami project required a
$958,000 match to leverage nearly $4.8 million. The McKinley-Ironwood Project used $227,000
to leverage $2 million. The $300,000 in Motor Vehicle Highway funds was to be used for repair of
concrete streets.
After brief discussion Tim Rouse moved favorably followed by Tom LaFountain's second. All
agreed and the bill went to full Council with a favorable recommendation.
Under miscellaneous, citizen member Jerry Niezgodski asked Gary Gilot if he could give a brief
update on the progress of the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Project in Kennedy and Edison
Park.
Gary said both were being designed with bio-retention features. Rainwater was to be captured
recharging the aquifer rather than sending it to the river. To help pay for the project $1.5 million
stimulus money was used from the feds with a like amount from the State.
There being no further business to come before the Committee at this time, Chairperson Varner
adjourned the meeting at 3:45 p.m.
