RESOLUTION NO. 920 -81 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA CONGRATULATING THE ST. <br />JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL INDIAN FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR <br />GREAT WINNING STREAK <br />WHEREAS, the St. Joseph's Indians racked up the longest <br />football winning streak by their 31 victories in the State of <br />Indiana &they outscored their rivals 293 to 34; and <br />WHEREAS, Coach Phil Teegarden established a team spirit <br />and organized. his football talent to go unbeaten for 3 straight <br />years; and <br />WHEREAS, the winning team effort of the St. Joseph Indians <br />included many individual high school stars such as: <br />(1) The "Touchdown Twins" Jim Reiner and Dale Scott who <br />were both 1000 -yard rushers with Jim gaining 1,116 yards for a <br />5.9 average; and Dale gaining 1,040 yards for a 5.5 average. <br />(2) Receiver Greg Grohowski caught 13 passes for 292 yards <br />and two touchdowns; Receiver Jon Badur caught 12 passes for 124 <br />yards and one touchdown; and Mario Zappia caught 9 passes for 126 <br />yards from Quarterback Mike Carmola who completed 42 of 83 passes <br />for 652 yards for 3 touchdowns. <br />(3) Sixteen Indiana Defenders were credited with 10 or more <br />solo tackles including Linebacker Jeff Monhaut with 47 solo tackles <br />and 39 assists;Tom Kuspa with 36 solo tackles and 28 assists; Tom <br />Toppell with 33 solo tackles and 29 assists; and Dennis Goralski <br />with 31 solo tackles and 23 assists. <br />(4) The power- packed "white dogs" offensive line included <br />such stars as Brian McMahon, Steve Hoffmann, John Zack, Paul Brady, <br />and John Glon; and the state's most impressive defensive secondaries <br />included Kevin Kasmierczak, Brian Wroblewski, Richard Was, and Tom <br />Klimek; who nabbed 21 interceptions. <br />WHEREAS, The South Bend Common Council recognizes the <br />individual and team talent on the St. Joseph's Indians football team <br />and congratulates them on an impressive winning streak which brought <br />them to a Class AAA playoff berth. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City <br />of South Bend, Indiana as follows: <br />SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana <br />CONGRATULATES the St. Joseph High School Indians football team for <br />establishing an Indiana State record of 31 consecutive victories. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council recognizes with pride, Coach <br />Phil Teegarden, the entire football team, and all of the individual <br />players who established many individual and team records in their <br />three years of consecutive football victories. <br />SECTION III. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, wishes to express their thanks on behalf of all of its <br />citizens and fans of the St.Joe' -s Indians football team for their <br />fine leadership and winning spirit which are a tribute to the entire <br />community, and wishes "THE TRIBE" continued success in the future. <br />SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in <br />full force and effect from and after its <br />adoption by the Common Council and <br />appro al by the Mayor. <br />6. - (r_ — - <br />Member of the Common Council <br />
