Area Board of Zoning Appeals -September 2, 2009
MR. URBANSKI: So did anybody live in it from your family then for awhile?
MR. GURROLA: Yes sir it was maintained as a second residence. I already had a residence prior to. My
daughter got married and subsequently wanted to have her home here. Her husband is local from here. The
home was purchased for her initially. She in turn went into the Air Force with her husband and my husband
and I basically took it over from there. I spend roughly two to three days a week in the area. Not necessarily
in the home because I do business in other cities and am involved with other things in the area. So that it came
to use that home because of the State requirement and the amount of space, I thought that would be a good
choice to use.
MR. HAWLEY: The property is titled in your name?
MS. GURROLA: Yes sir, along with my husband.
MR. HAWLEY: And do you also have a home, for some reason you mentioned Pokagon, do you have a
home there, rent there?
MS. GURROLA: No, I have a home and that's my second residence. I'm here in this city twice, three times a
week. I need a place to sleep in the winter because of the wear and tear of going back and forth was becoming
too much after my spinout on the expressway on ice. So my husband and I thought it would be safer for me to
have the residence here and have the family together part of the week here, and there.
MR. HAWLEY: Is anybody living in the property here now on Garland Circle?
MS. GURROLA: Yes sir the house parents for the program, Ruth and John.
MR. FEDDER: Let me see if I can ask a question strictly about funds. Are we having funds to operate this
from the State of Indiana?
MS. GURROLA: Initially funds for the program need to be provided by Hope House Organization and a four
month reserve. Ultimately because the young ladies will in the custody of the State, then they will provide
monetary for the care of the girls.
MR. FEDDER: Will there be any monetary expense to the County?
MS. GURROLA: Will there be any expenses to the County?
MR. FEDDER: St. Joseph County?
MS. GURROLA: Only to the extent that the girls will already be...
MR. FEDDER: I mean these girls have to be clothed and have to be fed and I don't know if they're going-to
go to our schools...
14
