REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 18, 2006 <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS <br />President Rodriguez advised that if there were no objections by members of the Board, the minutes of <br />the Public Agenda Session, Executive Session, and Regular meetings of the Board held onDecember <br />28, 2005 and the Special Meeting of January 6, 2006 would be accepted and approved. Ms. <br />Dempsey made a motion that the minutes would be accepted with the corrections page. Mr. Alford <br />seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE SWEARING IN OF FIREFIGHTER - BRENT VANBRUAENE <br />Fire Chief Luther Taylor advised that Mr. Brent VanBruaene has applied for sworn status as <br />Firefighter with the South Bend Fire Department. Mr. VanBruaene was a sworn member of the <br />Mishawaka Fire Department for thirteen months and is a member of the Police and Firefighters <br />Pension and Disability Fund. Mr. VanBruaene will be attending the twenty week recruit school and is <br />scheduled to start on January 23, 2006. Mr. VanBruaene has successfully completed allrequirements <br />set forth by the 1977 Pension Fund and his transfer has been approved by PERF. The local Pension <br />Board voted unanimously to approve Mr. VanBruaene for appointment to the South Bend Fire <br />Department. Chief Taylor requested the Board's approval of Mr. VanBruaene's appointment as a <br />probationary Firefighter effective January 18, 2006. Ms. Dempsey made a motion that the <br />appointment be approved. Mr. Alford seconded the motion which carried. <br />Ms. Mary Beth Wisniewski, Assistant City Clerk, was present and administered the Oath of Office to <br />Mr. V anBruaene. The Board wished him well in his endeavors with the South Bend Fire Department. <br />REQUEST FOR FIREFIGHTER RECRUIT TRAINING <br />Chief Luther Taylor submitted to the Board a letter requesting permission to hire five Fire Recruits as <br />civilian City employees. The recruit class is scheduled to begin on January 23, 2006 for a period of <br />approximately twenty weeks with an effective date of hire as Firefighters in June 2006. The names of <br />the applicants are as follows: <br />- Adrian Kaser -Tate Vermeulen <br />- Albert Mroczkiewicz -James Wood <br />- Jeremy Remble <br />Ms. Dempsey made a motion that the request be approved.
