REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 18, 2006 APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS President Rodriguez advised that if there were no objections by members of the Board, the minutes of the Public Agenda Session, Executive Session, and Regular meetings of the Board held onDecember 28, 2005 and the Special Meeting of January 6, 2006 would be accepted and approved. Ms. Dempsey made a motion that the minutes would be accepted with the corrections page. Mr. Alford seconded the motion which carried. APPROVE SWEARING IN OF FIREFIGHTER - BRENT VANBRUAENE Fire Chief Luther Taylor advised that Mr. Brent VanBruaene has applied for sworn status as Firefighter with the South Bend Fire Department. Mr. VanBruaene was a sworn member of the Mishawaka Fire Department for thirteen months and is a member of the Police and Firefighters Pension and Disability Fund. Mr. VanBruaene will be attending the twenty week recruit school and is scheduled to start on January 23, 2006. Mr. VanBruaene has successfully completed allrequirements set forth by the 1977 Pension Fund and his transfer has been approved by PERF. The local Pension Board voted unanimously to approve Mr. VanBruaene for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department. Chief Taylor requested the Board's approval of Mr. VanBruaene's appointment as a probationary Firefighter effective January 18, 2006. Ms. Dempsey made a motion that the appointment be approved. Mr. Alford seconded the motion which carried. Ms. Mary Beth Wisniewski, Assistant City Clerk, was present and administered the Oath of Office to Mr. V anBruaene. The Board wished him well in his endeavors with the South Bend Fire Department. REQUEST FOR FIREFIGHTER RECRUIT TRAINING Chief Luther Taylor submitted to the Board a letter requesting permission to hire five Fire Recruits as civilian City employees. The recruit class is scheduled to begin on January 23, 2006 for a period of approximately twenty weeks with an effective date of hire as Firefighters in June 2006. The names of the applicants are as follows: - Adrian Kaser -Tate Vermeulen - Albert Mroczkiewicz -James Wood - Jeremy Remble Ms. Dempsey made a motion that the request be approved. Mr. Alford seconded the motion which carried. FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL REPORT -DECEMBER 2005 Chief Luther Taylor submitted to the Board the monthly report for the month of December 2005 complied by the Prevention/Inspection Bureau of the Fire Department.
