Bill No. 16 -55 <br />T � iG y0U7Ng'f <br />J <br />3 < <br />L RESOLUTION NO. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />PUBLICLY HONORING THE RILEY ROCKETRY TEAM IN REPRESENTING THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND IN THE 2016 TEAM AMERICA ROCKETRY CHALLENGE FINAL FLY -OFF <br />G the South Bend Common Council notes that 2016 marks the 14`" year of the Team America <br />Rocketry Challenge (TARC) sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association, the National Association of <br />Rocketry and over 25 aerospace company partners making it the largest rocket contest in the world; and <br />0% the Common Council is proud to recognize that the Riley Rocketry Team of Riley High School <br />competed in the TARC Final Fly -Off, as I of 100 teams competing just outside of Washington, D.C. on May 14, <br />2016. This year's competition required a rocket to carry two (2) raw eggs, and required the rocket to reach a <br />height of 850' and then return to earth without cracking the eggs in 44 to 46 seconds; and <br />6}fj", the all- female Riley Rocketry Team members include Seniors Margo Bokhart, Dianne <br />Waweru and Angelique Wise; Juniors Tess Ngochi, Ruby Atkins, and Mila Medich; and Dr. Susan <br />Sakimoto, as the RHS Team Coach, Physics Teacher and National Association of Rocketry Mentor; and <br />G TARC has inspired over 60,000 students from across the nation to explore education & careers in <br />the STEM field; with teams representing all 50 states, D.C. & U.S.Virgin Islands in this year's competition; and <br />6}f(.r, this year the Team America Rocketry Challenge was the world's largest student rocket contest <br />with nearly 5,000 students competing on 789 teams in the competitions leading up to the Final Fly -Off won by <br />the Space Potatoes team from Bellevue, Washington. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is extremely proud to publicly recognize <br />and congratulate the Riley Rocketry Team. These talented women studied, designed, & built their rockets and <br />represented James Whitcomb Riley High School, the City of South Bend, and all of their family and friends in <br />the National Finals of the World's Largest Rocket Contest this year in the Team America Rocketry Challenge. <br />Section II. The Common Council hopes that each one of the Riley Rocketry Team members will continue to <br />shoot for the stars, as each of you are excellent role models for persons of all ages, with very bright adventuresome <br />futures and limitless opportunities ahead. 4 Congratulations!!!! If <br />Section III.
