HAfR <br />RESOLUTION NO. to <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA PUBLICLY <br />HONORING THOMAS "TD" DAVIS FOR WINNING THE 2016 INTERNATIONAL POWERLIFTING <br />FEDERATION'S SUPERHEAVYWEIGHT JUNIOR DIVISION <br />WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN SOUTH AFRICA <br />G *,� the South Bend Common Council recognizes that on the Men and Women's International Powerlifting <br />Federation (IPF) Competition was held in Potchefstroom, North West — South Africa from May 14 "' through May 21, 2016, <br />with the IPF having over one hundred (100) member countries; and <br />ON" the World Competition began with technical meetings, followed by an Opening Ceremony with the <br />competitions for the men and women divisions culminating in the Awards Banquet held at the Elgro Hotel Blue Room <br />located near North -West University in Potchefstroom in the North West Province of South Africa; and <br />6A"14 raw or unequipped powerlifting is governed by International Powerlifting Federal rules where competitors <br />wear an IPF approved singlet which has no additional supportive elements. This competitive sport features contestants who <br />"strive to reach their maximum capability" often in three (3) main exercises — the deadlift, the squat and the bench press, <br />with competitors divided by their own weight class; and <br />G,h" the Common Council is proud to note that representing the United States this year in the "IPF <br />World Raw Men's Championship ", which is commonly referred to as the "Olympics of Powerlifting" was <br />Thomas "TD" Davis. TD graduated from Saint Joseph "s High School where he competed in football and track, <br />and developed a passion for weightlifting, which he perfected while in college; and with the guidance of his <br />coach, Dan Gibson, owner of Strength Haven, as well as working out at Fit Stop with Fit Stop matching donations <br />in a Go Fund Me account, all worked together t to help make TD's trip to South Africa possible. <br />- 11 <br />V r r � r r � G. <br />r r <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the residents of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council is proud to <br />publicly honor and congratulate Thomas "TD" Davis who won the 2016 International Powerlifting Federation's <br />Superheavyweight Junior Division World Championship representing the United States in South Africa. <br />Section II. TD, who is 6'3" and weighs 410 pounds broke the 5 -year old World Bench Press Record of 617.5 by <br />lifting 622.5 pounds in his 3rd lift to win the competition.
