1. Establish a working relationship between police and community to formulate and implement a <br />safety and security program. <br />Eliminate locations within the neighborhood which encourage nuisance and/or criminal behavior. <br />Work with police to establish a special enforcement program on commercial blocks. <br />4. Give special attention to, and develop special programs for meeting the needs of the young <br />people of the neighborhood. <br />JOBS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />GOAL: To effect community and industrial redevelopment to provide jobs and local goods and services <br />compatible with the residential character of the area. <br />Objectives <br />Promote the retention and expansion of viable existing firms and institutions located in the <br />development area which enhance the neighborhood. <br />Encourage the location of new employers in the neighborhood. <br />Encourage the establishment of new businesses and institutions in the community. <br />4. Stimulate the increased employment of neighborhood residents in local businesses and <br />institutions. <br />5. Provide the necessary job training programs to residents which qualify them for upgrading or <br />new job openings, particularly for the structurally unemployed. <br />Encourage residents to patronize local businesses and institutions. <br />Provide for the development of neighborhood commercial and commercial service businesses to <br />serve the area. <br />Provide a sound physical relationship between residential and non-residential uses in the area. <br />COMMUNITY FACILITIES AND SERVICES <br />GOAL: To ensure the provision and delivery of high-quality services and facilities throughout the Near <br />Westside area. <br />Ensure that the neighborhood is adequately served with parks, playgrounds and public safety <br />facilities. <br />2. <br />3 <br />Encourage local pride in existing and proposed community facilities to ensure their long-term <br />maintenance and quality. <br />Encourage the upgrading and replacement of deteriorated and/or deteriorating public <br />improvements and facilities. <br />14 <br />
